Abstract
The second vertical derivative (2VD) processing in gravity data interpretation plays an important role in qualitative analysis on locating shallow sources that may be linked to potential concealed mineral deposits. Since the gravity data contains the mixed information from a broad range of various wavelength components, normally one single 2VD processing method cannot adequately reveal the hidden information. Therefore, several 2VD methods are normally applied to the same gravity data to search the best possible outcome or outcomes. In traditional spatial domain processing, these methods have to be implemented and executed separately to get the results. FFT-based frequency domain processing treats the input data as whole no matter how many different geological sources are contained in the data. In fact, the local gravity value at a specific point is mainly contributed by the resources in its near surroundings. The adaptive spatial data processing system (ASDPS) proposed recently by Guo provides a new option in processing gravity data in spatial domain. In this paper, we present the example of applying ASDPS to gravity data processing for identifying local sources using 2VDs. The results show that ASDSP is very useful in gravity data processing, particularly in 2VD processing, on which it perfumes better than FFT-based processing approaches.
