Abstract
This paper proposes an authoring model for the construction of intelligent tutoring systems in a more pleasant and effective manner. In return, a Knowledge Grid based intelligent tutoring system KGTutor is constructed to better support the distributed, student-centered and highly interactive learning approach. The kernel of the system is to organize course into a “concept space” rather than a “page space”. Students’ characteristics, such as background knowledge and learning styles, are used for selecting, organizing, and delivering the learning materials to individual students. During the learning progress, the system can also provide objective assessments and personalized suggestions for students according to their learning performance. An authoring tool and KGTutor prototype have been developed to support the proposed approach.
The research work was supported by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
