Abstract

The Dublin Core metadata element set has been widely adopted by cultural and scientific institutions, libraries, governments, and businesses to describe resources for discovery on the Internet. This paper provides an overview of its history and underlying principles and describes the activities of Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) as an organization.
