In Fielding's reinterpretation of Austen's Pride and Prejudice, slightly overweight 30-something London single woman Bridget Jones (Zellweger) is goodhearted, insecure, bumbling, and desperate-to-be-attached. On New Year's Day Bridget resolves to cut down on alcohol, cigarettes, and sweets, lose 20 pounds, and find a man, all while recording her progress and thoughts in a journal. She soon catches the eye of Daniel Cleaver (Grant) and Mark Darcy (Firth)-- and must discover whether either man is her Mr. Right.
