[origin: WO2009101114A1] The invention relates to a method for the open-loop and closed-loop control of traffic flow by means of the automatic takeover of the longitudinal control by a driver assistance system, wherein, after a detection and the incipience of a particular situation, a driver assistance system automatically takes over the longitudinal control of the vehicle, wherein when the particular situation ends, the driver regains the control over the vehicle as existed before the activation of the driver assistance system.
