Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0791455A2] A process for the continuous production of a carpet comprise: (i) cutting a weave lengthwise into strips; (ii) binding the weft threads along one strip edge with a thread; (iii) leaving the other edge free; (iv) stacking the strips one on top of each other so that the bound edges come to lie on top of each other where they are joined together; and (v) letting the free weft thread ends form the pile of the secured carpet. The strips are fed into adjacent storage devices (8) to form in each a stack (11) one above the other. The filled storage devices are taken one after the other to a conveyer (16) where the stacks are ejected from each of the devices and continuously laid on a belt (17) of the conveyer with strip bound edges turned away from the belt. The belt with strips is passed through a device (19) for applying adhesive material to the surface of strips facing away from the belt so that the strips are joined together to form a carpet (22). Also claimed is a weave for making said carpets where th e weft threads, set in two layers to form a double woven fabric, are held by binding threads. At least one stationary thread lies between the layers.
