This workshop is part of the Graphics Lab, a project aimed at picture retouching to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. This specific page is the requests page for the Illustration Workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be created or improved. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.

Thanks so much for that Tillman! I think it looks great in the French article. I'll see what they think. They didn't delete the english version like several of the other pics I uploaded for being too "pretty" and unencyclopedic, so I think it might be a stayer. Very helpful thankyou. No i was just asking if anyone would like to make a similar graphic. I do not have references for the percentages, any such reference would likely be dubious anyway. Hi we are preparing some drafts for a new user group logo about classical culture. At least two users have suggested a version with an owl theme but we have no svg here on commons with such icon. Could someone help us? You can upload a svg or create directly the logo. Creating the logo it's not complicated I just show you an example mostly to show you the type of simple layout we are looking for. I put you the png we have of the typical Minerva's owl, maybe you can upload both an accurate svg (which is in nay case useful probably) and a more simple layout? Maybe it helps... there are already some svg on line, mostly copyrighted. this one, another one. The lines are quite simple, I am quite sure an expert illustrator can sufficiently combine them in order to get a better starting point for an original svg or eps image.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:18, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:JoKalliauer "owl" is probably misleading in some languages. For example in Italian we have gufo and civetta. Minerva's owl is the latter, i think it is called Little owl in English. category:Athenian tetradrachm contains similar coins with such icon. it should represented with big round eyes and the head in frontal position on the right side of the image. There is a png drawing, maybe you can vectorize that one? The logo with the copied image is unusual, too different for standard graphics. If just put an owl, the connection IMHO is not clear. But I can ask the others, maybe they like it. We have other options but people really wanted to try this one... so whatever we can do... otherwise thank you in any case, I will suggest another option of the more complex ones that are missing and see what we can get.--Alexmar983 (talk) 22:19, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the thing is, that the owl (not really an owl, a Little Owl (Athene noctua) needs to be recogniced on the first view. Because of this, it had to be as near as possible on the owl at the athens coins. So if it would be possible, to stay as much as possible at the owl's form at the first iage, it would be great. The other forms are too naturalistic. Of importance are the big eyes, the stiff behaviour, a kind of slightly falling over with the head, a site view of the boy and a frontal view of the head. Request

Hi all, just requesting a quick check on the linked image on whether I implemented translations correctly. I added switch and systemLanguage tags, and it seems to switch languages in-browser, but the drop-down language selector doesn't seem to be showing up. @ARR8 and Pbroks13: Well, I thought I knew what the issue was, but SystemLanguageLayers.svg has a very similar structure to Europe regions minimal cities.svg and it does get detected as a multilingual file somehow. @Pbroks13: I uploaded about 30 different versions of the file to Test.svg and it turned out that no specific part of the SVG was responsible for the missing language selector. Files with about 240kB and 260kB of <!--comment--> in front of the <switch> did and didn't have a language selector respectively. I'm guessing that the limit is 256kB, because that's exactly a quarter MB. TilmannR (talk) 09:46, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

• From Help:Translation tutorial#Language matching rules: "Note: Large files (> 256 kb) need to have the translations appear closer to the beginning of the file." I didn't know this either, but apparently it's a per-site MediaWiki configuration setting, "to prevent excessive resource consumption by having to load large SVGs into an XML parser.", - $wgSVGMetadataCutoff, defaulting to 256 KB.
