Hi. I don't remember the original license of this picture on flickr when I've uploded it in it:Wikipedia. I'm only sure that the license was compatible with Wikipedia, but not the exact license.

Metalab

Thank you about the image change lisence request. I really will use it. (http://tools.wikimedia.de/~daniel/WikiSense/CheckUsage.php?i=Metalab001_A350.jpg&w=_100000)

Dear captain,

Kindly excuse my bad english.

I'm sorry for the copyright violation. But shouldn't then this pictures deleted too: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Puflogv1000X650.gif http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Openbsd2.svg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Openbgpd.gif http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Opencvs.gif

Because the copyright is by the OpenBSD Group?

Request for check

Hi Captain-tucker, I saw you have OTRS access. Could you please check whether the images uploaded by Arjun024 are compliant with the given license/OTRS ticket? The permission note says images have to be checked individually (and I was asked about a watermark on one of them by a Malayalam Wiki user). Thank you Hekerui (talk) 13:45, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

It would appear that the three photos File:Vidya1.jpg, File:Vidya2.jpg and File:Soha.jpg do meet the requirements of ticket 2008030310010794. But this ticket as well at the template documentation does state that the image must be individually processed through COM:OTRS. Ticket 2008030310010794 can not be directly used for these image but should be referenced in the email to OTRS. You should either send in the email or have the uploader do this and remove the current OTRS ticket and replace it with OTRS-pending. --Captain-tucker (talk) 23:35, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

File:Haathi parvat.jpg

Can you see if you can mark this. I had transferred the image, so its better if someone else marks it. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

✓  Done, No problem. --Captain-tucker (talk) 19:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
 • Thank you very much. I had contacted someone yesterday night in Germany but he seems to have been away. I will tell him to not worry about it. The license is right...only the flickr version is cc by sa 3.0. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:54, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Some images you might be able to save

Hi!

Are currently under a non free license. We have other images from this user, that is ok. So perhaps user is willing to change license. Could you perhaps ask him? --MGA73 (talk) 20:16, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Flickrmail sent. Will see what he says. Several of the images uploaded direct to en-wiki are freely licensed on Flickr. They need to be moved over to Commons. I haven't done that in a while, maybe I will move them... --Captain-tucker (talk) 12:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good... I thought all free Flickr images were now moved to commons. Perhaps I have forgotten some... :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:49, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

File:Magic Roundabout, Swindon.jpg

Hello! The author has agreed to change the license on Panoramio to CC-BY-SA so you can confirm the license used on Commons. Link to the photo on Panoramio: [2]. By the way, he asked if it's possible to remove his full name as an author from the history (eg. by deleting those versions of the page where it's used or in any other way) and replace it with his nickname on Panoramio. Regards, Delta 51 (talk) 16:17, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I passed the file. Can you provide me with the actual request from the copyright holder requesting to have his name removed. Will have to check on this as I am not familiar with our policy on removing this kind of info. --Captain-tucker (talk) 13:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I've asked him to contact you via e-mail, so he can request it personally. Delta 51 (talk) 13:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps....

...you can make a miracle once more.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/riviera2005/463855187/ would be nice to have but we need a permission or a change of license. Perhaps you can get it for us? --MGA73 (talk) 21:18, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Are you sure you pasted the right link? That image on Flickr is already CC-BY-2.0. --Captain-tucker (talk) 09:20, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes... We had a DR discussion on enwiki. Perhaps someone else persuaded the user to change license :-) --MGA73 (talk) 18:03, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Hiya! You look very busy. Can you tell me what the dealio is with these 2 commons images? I saw your OTRS tag on both, from April 16. While we're at it, what is the dealio with this commons image: File:Chair1.jpg, if you know. That's the one I was checking on, and your tagged images are from the same user/submitter. Thanks much for what you're up to here. Arbortender (talk) 05:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Do you think you can upload the original size photo for this image? I tried using the bot but it did not cooperate and one is left with the low resolution image the uploader used. My computer today refuses to upload new version of images over pre-existing image files. Just curious? Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:31, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Strange, I was able to upload the 1024x680 version but not the 4288 x 2848 version. I still got the above error from different computer. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:52, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
 • That's OK. I got the same message from both my father's computer and my computer. Perhaps the picture has some XML which plays havoc with uploading images here. Oh well thanks for your help. We both tried our best. --Leoboudv (talk) 19:54, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
 • This was the photo I was talking about. I couldn't upload it and Admin Lupo had to delete html and xml (as he says) which totally currupted the image before he could upload it here. Notice it has the same flickr source. I don't know how he does it but I don't bother sadly. It was taken 3 days before the final defeat of the LTTE on May 18, 2009 and Commons needed Mahinda's photo as PM of Sri Lanka. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:05, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

This DR

Would you like to make a reply on this DR? I think the photo can be kept given the unique circumstances. Commons was less strict with image permissions in 2007/2008 but the permission was given on 4 January 2009--very close to 2008. The permission is quite clear and mentions copyright. Rosa 'Capistrano'

Hello,
I wanted to ask if you are sure about the identification as 'Capistrano', as it doesn't look like 'Capistrano' by Morris on helpmefind at all...
All the best, --Anna reg (talk) 20:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Last April I went on vacation to San Diego, California and went to a place call The Flower Fields where they have a Rose Garden with all of the All American Rose Selection Winners so I went around taking photos of first the rose and then the sign under the rose. Here is my sign photo: http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv323/bailey-tucker/?action=view&current=IMG_0706.jpg you can see a petal with the same coloring as my photo. I also found this Blog posting of someone who took a similar photo along with the sign at the same location: http://nadiaknows.com/2010/05/09/happy-mothers-day/ So I know that my photo is from the same plant. Unfortunately the AARS document just lists the Rose as 'Pink'. http://www.rose.org/site/files/766/66147/251395/463956/Past_Winners_2010.pdf One interesting thing that I did find if you go to page 11 (in the PDF) or page 9 as shown in this document (a listing from a different rose garden in San Diego: http://www.grpg.org/Files/HRGCatalog7.15.10.pdf it lists two Capistrano roses created by Morris, one in 1939 and one in 1949. I would assume that the one created in 1949 was the winner of the 1950 AARS. --Captain-tucker (talk) 15:48, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: File:Cody Simpson Live.jpg

Hello, I completely understand why you tagged the photo for deletion, but have a bit of an issue. The permission was given to me by the author via Flikr messaging. Not E-Mail. How would I go about providing the proof that I was authorized by the author of the photo to use it on Wikipedia? Could I just copy and past the correspondence into the description of the photo? Any advise would be appreciated.

What I have done in the past is to take a screen shot of the Flickr email and send that screenshot to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, see COM:OTRS for full instructions, the best thing to do is to get the Flickr author to change the license on Flickr to either CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. If they won't change it on Flickr, permission must go through the COM:OTRS team.--Captain-tucker (talk) 02:14, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

An email containing the permission for the File:Noh Gonbad Mosque.jpg from its creator was sent to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org".--Artacoana (talk) 18:56, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, unfortunately the email says you may upload the photo to Wikipedia. This is not an acceptable license on Commons, see: COM:L#Well-known_licenses for examples of acceptable licenses. You should contact the Flickr author again and see if they will either change the images on flickr to CC-BY/CC-BY-SA or reply back to OTRS providing a free license. RE: File:BrandonFlowersJeanJacket.jpeg

Captain,

Hi. Thank you for having a look at the Brandon Flowers photo. In fact, this photo is allowed for use and is not under prohibitions for copyright. Furthermore, I work for Robert Reynolds (manager of Brandon Flowers) who holds any rights to this photo and has specifically given me permission/direction to put it up. Is there a better way for me to go about doing that? Would you please be able to help me figure that you.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. --Waytagojoe (talk) 18:44, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Rename of File:Tanew Canon 068.jpg and File:Tanew Canon 133.jpg

Thanks for your response to my request. Mistakenly used the term "mispelled". As a beginner, trying to fix the previous error in the name of two files named "Canon Tanew ...". In fact, I care about the harmonization of names within my own files. In these two files, I used the word "Canon" instead of something more appropriate such as a brief description of the place or even the date the photo was taken. The names of my files also leave core "IMG_xxxx" so I can easily find them in the Wikimedia Commons. Try to find the photo files using a set of words "palenica img", "szczawnica img" or "kazimierz dolny img".

Unfortunatly moves for that sort of reason are not supported by the File renaming policy. But if you want an easy way to find all of your images the better thing to do is to use User Categories. Policy is here. All you do is create a user category such as Category:Files by Robsuper and then in that page put . Then add this category to all of your images and you have a easy way to find all of your images. If you upload a lot of files you can even have sub user categories. Take a look at mine: Category:Photos by Captain-tucker. Now user categories are hidden categories so you will not see them on the file page unless you enable viewing of hidden categories in your preferences. You can enable this by going to My Preferences/Appearance and checking the box next to Show Hidden Categories. Let me know if you have any questions. --Captain-tucker (talk) 10:38, 13 January 2011 (UTC).
Good idea, I will use it. However, again I posted a request to change the names of these two files but this time with a more eloquent figure. And if File Renaming policy will not be too cruel to me, however I have a great re-request for the establishment of such names in accordance with the wishes of my humble manner and modes wish. Thank you in advance, Your Honour. --robsuper (talk) 12:29, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
I will let another file mover/admin decide on your move request, BTW you should always sign your talk page messages, just click on the signatures icon on the editing toolbar   or enter ~~~~. --Captain-tucker (talk) 12:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help and understanding. Knowledge is the almighty power. --robsuper (talk) 12:49, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

File:Delta IV Heavy ignation at Vandenberg AFB.jpg

File:Delta IV Heavy ignation at Vandenberg AFB.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Reviewing question

Hi, Captain-tucker. Among the many files in Category:License review needed I came across a couple of files from http://www.travelgeorgia.ru/ e.g. File:Daryal Gorge.jpg. Each page of travelgeorgia.ru has an indication at the bottom that the content is published under cc-by-sa-3.0. I wonder if in such a case the License review is indeed needed? Isn't it meant mainly for files from sites with multiple licenses? What to do? Thanks. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 09:40, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, you are correct, COM:LP does specifically state: external websites that provide images under different licenses. and travelgeorgia.ru does have a footer that licenses everything on the website under cc-by-sa-3.0, so Licensereview does not really apply. As all of the images from travelgeorgia.ru had the Licensereview template added by User:Geagea you might want to drop a note on his/her talk page and then remove the Licensereview. Let me know if you need any assistance. And Thank You for all of your work in Category:License review needed, I added almost 600 images to that category and you have done the majority of the work. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:10, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome and thank you so much for your explanation. I did as you suggested, and made a general license-notification as header of Category:Photos from travelgeorgia.ru. Here is one more problem I have, and for which I want your advice. Some files, e.g. File:Kintua river.jpg or File:Torre de Madrid y Edificio España en plaza de España de Madrid.jpg, the source indicates license cc-by or cc-by-sa generally, without adding a version number. How to treat these? Thanks again. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 15:42, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
It is my opinion that if the publisher does not specify a specific CC license version that it would default to the latest version currently available from CC. At this time this would be 3.0. There have been discussions within OTRS as to what to do when someone just says CC-BY/CC-BY-SA and does not specify a version but I am not aware of any consensus so that's what I do. --Captain-tucker (talk) 15:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. I agree that perhaps it is best to add 3.0 as version, but when it is already given as for instance cc-by-sa-all, I think I will accept that. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 13:26, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

License Review

Hi Captain-tucker. I've noted you dedicate some time to license reviewing and thought you might be interested in testing a new version of the script. Since I saw in your contributions that you sometimes review files with LicenseReview, I thought you might be a good reviewer to ask. Would you be interesting in reviewing files in Category:License review needed and do regular reviewing for testing? If so, you may temporarily replace the license review script with User:ZooFari/Sandbox.js. The new stuff about the script are:

This new modified version has many loops and conditions that can potentially introduce bugs, so any errors or suggestions before making it live would be appreciated. If you're busy then no big deal, just let me know. --ZooFari 04:30, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
I would be happy to test out your new script. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:05, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Curious as to why you removed reference to your script in the edit summary. I think it's good to know that a certain script was used for something like LicenseReview. --Captain-tucker (talk) 12:08, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I removed the reference because I thought the summary looked cleaner and simple. Perhaps having them more informative by including the script reference would be more important. I'll see what I can come up with. Let me know if you have further suggestions. --ZooFari 06:31, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

It seems that the OTRS permission is only for the image while we might want the permission from the original owner of the image depicted in the poster. What do you think? Or can we take the poster under de minimis principle and give the photograph owner the copyright since there is also a certain amount of originality involved in the image? --Sreejith K (talk) 10:50, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
This is a close one, I would recommend that you open up a deletion request for this image asking if we need permission of the poster photographer or if it meets the requirements of de minimis. I would lean toward needing permission. A DR is the best way to go. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:57, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

--Sreejith K (talk) 05:20, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I have restored all three but please look carefully at File:Josh_Brolin_and_Diane_Lane.JPG, File:HFPA07 5533.jpg. They both have EXIF data that claim different authorship. You may want to review the entire ticket closely just to make sure. Let me know if you want File:Josh_Brolin_and_Diane_Lane.JPG and File:HFPA07 5533.jpg deleted again. --Captain-tucker (talk) 10:48, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Before I saw the images, it was already deleted stating balant copyright claim. Two persons, Josh Wood and Luisa Pisani has emailed OTRS saying that they are the owner of the image. They both have used the OTRS template email. Can I know what was the EXIF saying? --Sreejith K (talk) 13:11, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
If they use images for spamming - and all content at Josh Wood does not serve any other purpose but making a non-notable person visible in the internet, and that finding is consistent with the definition of spam - they should use their own images. The File:Josh_Brolin_and_Diane_Lane.JPG contains the author information of that WireImage photographer, the File:Josh Wood.JPG contains the information about said author. The only file that might be ok is File:Josh Wood.JPG where Jdwoodr is holding the camera himself apparently. Likley that upload is the only upload of Jdwoodr where the author claim holds, the rest is all not self-created. --Martin H. (talk) 09:26, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
File:HFPA07 5533.jpg list this in the EXIF: Copyright Info : ©2007 Hollywood Foreign Press Association. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. NOT FOR RESALE. How is the state of this OTRS-ticket? Is it solved and/or can I delete it? -- Cecil (talk) 12:27, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

The permission email was for Wikipedia only, I replied back asking for a free license but never received a response back. I just sent another email saying that the images would be deleted and that if he could provide a free license we would gladly undelete them. So go ahead and delete, while you are at it File:Rutger_Beke_2011.jpg was in the same ticket. --Captain-tucker (talk) 21:04, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Permission was received for these two images from uplace.eu so they have been restored and OTRS permission tages added. --Captain-tucker (talk) 17:48, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Captain-tucker!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Questionable uploads from "UED77"

Hi. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The problem was that one of the the upload guides in Portuguese included my username and the name Cesáreo Fraile Izquierdo (which is someone else's), and some uploaders copy-pasted that verbatim into the file descriptions. I have since replaced most references to my name, but the problem isn't completely solved. I will work with other translators of help pages to make sure this cannot happen again. —UED77 (talk) 10:22, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Your assistance please...

Could you help me with some information concerning File:Family celebrating St Patricks day at Guantanamo.jpg?

Could you help me with the timeline?

User:Yachtsman1 placed a speedy tag on Category:O'Kelly's pub, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base on 15:38, 28 January 2011. I changed that speedy tag to a full deletion discussion on 10:34, 31 January 2011. You closed that discussion as keep on 13:41, 7 February 2011 You deleted it on 14:09, 7 February 2011.

The record shows you also closed the discussion on File:Family celebrating St Patricks day at Guantanamo.jpg as delete on 14:09, 7 February 2011 I changed the speedy delete Yachtsman1 put on 10:34, 31 January 2011 The record shows that I changed a speedy delete tag Yachtsman1 put on the file to a full deletion discussion on 16:59, 31 January 2011.

What I would like your help with are:

 1. Did I upload the image of Patrick M. McCarthy, the senior officer who was responsible for the creation of the pub, and his family, prior to this offensive personal attack by w:User:Yachtsman1? Can you tell me when it was uploaded?
 2. Can you tell me when Yachtsman1 placed the speedy deletion tag on the article?
 3. If the wikipedia, or another sibling project, contained an article about the Pub, would you agree to restore this image of the club's founder on opening night?

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 17:39, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this as I have not been very active on Commons lately. To answer your questions, you uploaded the photo at 02:24, April 18, 2009, the speedy tag was added at 19:30, January 28, 2011 and the photo is not within COM:SCOPE because it appears to be a private image, it's a photo of a family at some type o celebration, there is nothing that relates the image to the Pub you mention. If you read this section carefully Commons:SCOPE#Examples, you will see that the photo in question is a perfect example of what it meant there. The other images in Category:O'Kelly's pub, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base relate to the pub but this one IMHO does not and is not in COM:SCOPE. You are of course free to bring this undeletion request to COM:UNDEL --Captain-tucker (talk) 00:55, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
You wrote "it's a photo of a family at some type o celebration, there is nothing that relates the image to the Pub you mention."
No offense, but the article the image illustrates was entitled "McCarthy's kick up heels at O'Kelly's" [7], [8]. 462 of the 714 words in the article the image illustrates are devoted to the McCarthy family, the family shown in that image. So, no, I can't agree that "there is nothing that relates the image to the Pub you mention."
Can we agree that images used on other project automatically in scope?
I asked you "If the wikipedia, or another sibling project, contained an article about the Pub, would you agree to restore this image of the club's founder on opening night?" Can we agree that there is, after all, a connection between this image of individuals who spoke or performed at the pub on opening night and the pub itself? Can I ask you to reconsider under what circumstances you would restore the image in order for it to legitimately be used on a sibling project?
I refreshed my memory of Commons:SCOPE#Examples. You said this called this appears to be a private image. However, doesn't the article largely about the featured role the family played on opening night in a public venue make this a public image? As an image taken by a GI it is not only a public image, it is a public domain image. Geo Swan (talk) 05:14, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
I would recommend that you bring this issue to COM:UNDEL and obtain consensus there as to whether or not this image is in scope. You make some good points and that is the place to ensure that the right thing is done. --Captain-tucker (talk) 09:16, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I think I will wait until I have actually require the image. Geo Swan (talk) 19:55, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:IMG1066A.jpg

Hello Captain-tucker, I was curious as to why you closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:IMG1066A.jpg as keep. It is an extremely low quality image of someone sitting in front of a computer at a radio station. There is an excessive amount of jpg compression and the image is in a fairly low resolution. It isn't used on any of the projects, and there is no foreseeable educational use for the image in the future, either on one of the Wikimedia projects or elsewhere. Therefore, it is out of COM:SCOPE#File not legitimately in use. Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 16:18, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

This image didn't seem like it was blatantly out of scope and it seemed like there was a possibility that it could be used. This was admittedly a close call, I was on the fence thinking about it but ultimatly decided to close it as keep. There were no other comments so it was a judgement call. --Captain-tucker (talk) 04:21, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thank you for the explanation. Would it be fine with you if I renominated it. Perhaps a second nomination will draw comments. Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 20:06, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
If you would like that is fine as I have no 'stake' or interest in the image at all. --Captain-tucker (talk) 22:17, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of File:TramontoBosa.jpg

Hi, and thanks for reviewing my deletion request. You kept it because it was in use in it.wiki. In fact that picture was just part of a gallery, and didn't hold any prominent role in the article. I removed the file from it.wiki page about Bosa now. Should I nominate the file for deletion again? --Japs 88 (talk) 11:01, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

You certainly free to nominate the file again. I personally don't see anything wrong with the file, we do have lot's of sunsets but deleting a file does not save any resources, it just hides the file from public view. --Captain-tucker (talk) 18:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Not encyclopedic

Hi Captain-tucker, I removed File:The Iranian National Museum Of Medical Sciences History, Tehran; Iran (By Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab) (4).JPG and File:The Iranian National Museum Of Medical Sciences History, Tehran; Iran (By Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab) (14).jpg from the English Wikipedia article. Unfortunately I'm currently blocked on Persian Wikipedia and I couldn't remove them from the equivalent Persian Wikipedia article? If I ask a user of Persisn Wikipedia to remove them because of not being encyclopedic, will you delete them? AMERICOPHILE 18:27, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

If circumstances change relative to these files you are certainly free to nominate them for deletion a second time. --Captain-tucker (talk) 18:50, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

About the difficulties to understand the different combinations of Licence

Hello !

I received a strange message on my ip count telling me that I tried to vandalize commons ??? Actually, I didn't understand the different combinations of Licence. I think I understood now. I didn't tried to vandalize but I was surprised by the message shown when selecting specific Licence. I thought I couldn't use that licence on wikipedia. That's why, I do and undo until I understand the meaning and the purpose of the message.

Please, understand that it was only because I didn't know what kind of licence I should use to protect my svg file.

Sincerely yours,

French user, --Matwi (talk) 08:02, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I was doing a real time patrol of IP address changes and saw an IP address change a license to a template that did not exist on File:Montpellier - Tramway network.svg. I assumed that it was vandalism. IP address sometimes make strange edits in attemps at vandalism. I will remove the template from the IP address. I see that you have changed the license using your regular user id. Do you know that once you release a image like this using a Creative Commons license that its irrevocable. The CC-BY-SA-3.0 license will always be valid. So just changing the license to CC-BY-NC-ND is not a valid reason to delete the file. The image is in use, why do you apparently want it deleted? --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:33, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

I don't want to delete it ! I just want to protect the file from commercial use? Thanks for your help. --82.229.135.217 11:53, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Ok, Unfortunately as I mentioned you have released the image using the CC-BY-SA-3.0 license so there is no way to stop if from possibly being used for commercial reasons. Once you license something with a Creative Commons license its irrevocable which means that you can not retract that license, it's valid forever. The only way to stop it from being used commercially would be to get the image deleted via a deletion request but that may be difficult as it is in use and you did publish it with a valid CC-BY-SA-3.0 license. --Captain-tucker (talk) 12:07, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Photo deletion by you...

Hi, I posted a photo back in February to the Wikipedia page of Laura Cha.

Ms. Cha is a personal family friend and she gave me a photo of herself that had been taken by her husband. She asked me to post it as a replacement photo to one that already existed... and that she hated.

I did that... but apparently not in the right procedure, as you deleted it.

Can you please advise how I should "properly" go about replacing her photo for her?

I have read several pages in Wikipedia and Wikimedia etc... but frankly, ams still lost.

Thank you very much.

Tom

Tom, The photo that you uploaded File:Laura May Lung Cha.jpg on 2012-01-01 appears to be a professional corporate 'head shot' and has been published on the internet in many different locations [11],[12],etc... If you have an image that you personally took with your camera you can upload that. If you obtain a photo that someone else personally took with their camera then you need to follow the procedure at COM:OTRS. The photo must have a free license such as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. You can not download a photo that appears on the internet or that someone else took without obtaining a free license from that person. If her husband really took the photo that you uploaded then you will need him to send an email with proof that he holds the copyright to that photo as described in COM:OTRS. Having the original high resolution image with EXIF data would be very helpful. When someone uploads a very low resolution photo that is published in many other locations on the internet we usually assume that they just downloaded it from some other website and uploaded it here without obtaining a free license from the copyright holder. Please let me know if you have any more questions. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:42, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Files on Wikivoyage from Flickr

Hi!

If you are still into Flicr files then we have http://wts.wikivoyage-old.org/wiki/Category:Files_from_Flickr_-_local_licencereview with files that was uploaded to Wikivoyage or Wikitravel. The files are now unfree or no longer excisting but they were reviewed by a local user.

So we could 1) Trust the local reviewer or 2) Ask the user on Flickr for a change of license or a permission or 3) ???

Do you have any good ideas what to do? --MGA73 (talk) 08:01, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Well if we consider this against out 'rules', I don't think we can just trust the local reviewer. I would recommend that if any of the Flick authors are no longer on Flickr these image cannot be moved since we will not be able to contact them. The only thing we can do and meet our Flickr review requirements would be to try and contact the Flickr authors and verify if the free license was ever valid. I have not been that active on Commons lately but I will see if I can find some time to contact some of these Flickr authors. --Captain-tucker (talk) 01:52, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

We are visual artists and academics who are currently working on a chapter in a book entitled ‘The Photograph and the Album’ (published by MuseumsEtc http://museumsetc.com/blogs/news/7422776-forthcoming-the-photograph-and-the-album). We are also contributing to the editorship of this volume.

Our chapter is examining the role that the internet plays in acting as a 'giant photograph album'. We have taken this principle and have begun to look for images, searching – as many of us do – under our own names, curious to find out what images appear.

The following image came up in relation to one of our surnames:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rcnwr-1.jpg

We are interested in using this image in our chapter and want to confirm that you agree that we can do this in line with the statement that appears in Wikimedia Commons which is as follows:

“I, the copyright holder of this work, release this work into the public domain. This applies worldwide. In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so: I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.”

To be clear about our use of the image, it will appear as part of a sequence of images for which we will provide full captions and acknowledgement (in reference to the information which appears on the webpage provided above).

We hope you are willing to give permission and would appreciate if you would confirm this via this email – J.Carson@salford.ac.uk. We would also be very grateful if you could inform us of any other parties from whom we should seek permission in reference to this image, if you are aware of any such parties.

If you are willing to give permission please confirm the text you would like us to present in relation to the images to satisfy the condition of attribution.

We would appreciate it if you could respond by Friday June 21st 2013.

Thank you for your consideration & please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Very best regards, Rosie Miller & Jonathan Carson

See private email for response. Let me know if you need anything else.--Captain-tucker (talk) 13:03, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

File:North Thompson River.jpg

File:North Thompson River.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Restoration files

Hi, Captain-tucker. You deleted 2 pictures, that I downloaded. I sent letter to 'permissions-commons@wikimedia.org' (27.02.13) with permissions of the author of this photo. Please restore this files:

When the OTRS agent validates the permission they will either restore the images if they have admin rights on Commons or request the restoration from an admin. The restoration request must come from the OTRS agent when the permission has been validated. --Captain-tucker (talk) 15:41, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:BASF logo.svg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:BASF logo.svg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Deletion of the image which is no more valid

Hello Captain Tucker,

This image has no more use and the kingfisher airline has ceased all of its operation. Hence request you to delete this screen shot. Thanks

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Trz-lhr.jpg#file

The above image has already been deleted by another admin as a copyright violation. --Captain-tucker (talk) 09:14, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Please restore my image

The last one deleted at Commons:Deletion requests/File:AlewifeEnvironmentalArt2.JPG was mine. I was not notified of this deletion discussion, and even the nom suggests de minimas may apply. I request that the image is restored; feel free to start a new deletion discussion about it. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 10:09, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Oh crap, I am so sorry, Piotrus; I did not mean to forget you. I included that image in the original deletion discussion for completion's sake, but I would support it being restored without even bothering with a second deletion discussion. As I recall, the art was not the primary focus of the image and it's an easy de minimis claim. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:07, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

Could you explain why you deleted the Main Page in Urdu??? صفحۂ اول Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:48, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I believe it had a speedy tag with the reason 'Editing Test'. I admit I did not translate the title as I (apparently wrongly) assumed that someone had created a page as an editing test. I will be a bit more careful with things like that in the future. --Captain-tucker (talk) 15:32, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Please restore Humanfolk

Could you please restore the Humanfolk photo that you have deleted? It's currently in discussion with the permissions email. The ticket number for this discussion is Ticket#2014122910001306. Thanks. --Jojit (talk) 11:46, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

If the OTRS agent believes that permission has been granted the photo can very easily be un-deleted by any admin at the request of an OTRS agent. Deleted photos on Commons are just hidden from view, not actually deleted. --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:52, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
FYI, the photo was restored. Thanks anyway for your advise. --Jojit (talk) 01:16, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

File:George Billman.JPG

You deleted File:George Billman.JPG as no OTRS permission, however permission was sent. OTRS is currently extremely backlogged ("approximately 52 days"). I don't know what Commons policy is, but common sense would say not to delete files when they pass the 30 day mark if the backlog is 52 days. Please advise. --ThaddeusB (talk) 17:01, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

If the OTRS agent believes that permission has been granted the photo can very easily be un-deleted by any admin at the request of an OTRS agent. Deleted photos on Commons are just hidden from view, not actually deleted. So when and if your permission is approved your photo will be un-deleted. --Captain-tucker (talk) 01:34, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Most OTRS agents are not commons admins (and I am well aware how deletion works, thanks), and no one else can verify that a deleted image matches the image in the permission file. Again, it seems incredibly stupid to delete images after 30 days when the backlog is longer than 30 days. It is simply not possible ANY file will be approved in that time frame at current, so such deletions are creating a lot of unnecessary work. Can you please undelete the image so I can put the pending ticket number on it. I can't approve it since it is my image, but I can retrieve the ticket number since I am an OTRS volunteer. --ThaddeusB (talk) 15:53, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
ThaddeusB, you should have told me from the beginning that you were an OTRS agent. I am a former agent and will un-delete this file immediately. --Captain-tucker (talk) 20:54, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Much appreciated. I was hesitant to put the "received" template on it originally because the template says "the message was not sufficient to confirm permission" (and because it was my image) - I should have simply looked at the documentation and seen there is a "processing" parameter earlier. --ThaddeusB (talk) 16:53, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:East Whale Bay beach IMG 1697.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Problem with a college of yours

Ellin Blitz , states that a photo I took of my (since August 2016) passed away dad's Type Certificate for flying as Captain (Commander) of an Airbus A320 has a copyright belonging to the instructor at Airbus who signed the document. But he (the instructor) was employed by Airbus Industries. (dad was an airliner pilot between 1967 and 1997. I just cannot imagine flight-instructors receiving copyright moneys for signing the pilot has fulfilled his education for this type of aircraft. If possible, could you help me ? Further, it appears as if I take a shot of a novel - then that's not legal. But if taking a screenshot of the same novel at the web, then there is no problems at all. Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Captain-tucker

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Captain-tucker,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Hello, please take a look at this report: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Files named with meaningless/disruptive names (motivated renaming was reverted without any valid reason) as these are serious everyday violations of the Commons rules and protection of meaningless names (in this case, Kalumny which translates as Columns). User Kazimier Lachnovič with filemover rights constantly performs violations of the Commons rules, creates instability issues and protects meaningless names, thus creates confusion. His Commons admin rights previously were lifted, but it is clear that it is not enough. -- Pofka (talk) 17:07, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I believe you have made a mistake

On 31st August you have removed this image: https://flickr.com/photos/64865925@N07/6996884540 for the reason "Unfree Flickr license".

However, if you click on the license, "Some rights reserved", it brings you here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/

According to the license this image uses, we can use this image for Wikipedia purposes since there is attribution, it is non commercial and no derivatives (no editing the image). Can you reverse the removal? RBut (talk) 03:06, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

by-nc-nd is not an acceptable license for Commons, please see Commons:Licensing#Well-known_licenses. Captain-tucker (talk) 02:10, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

About the official photo of the current president of Brazil

Hi, I would like to say that I made a mistake with the copyright code of a certain image, I made a mistake with the creative commons code, I should put it as it is on that site to submit to Wikipedia. Could you solve this error for me? The real code is this (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)) as I got the code wrong because I'm new to Wikipedia and looking to contribute to this site. Could you reverse this removal? I would appreciate it a lot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecleridus (talk • contribs) 23:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 is not an acceptable license for Commons, please see Commons:Licensing#Well-known_licenses. The NC is not allowed here on Commons. Captain-tucker (talk) 23:07, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Deletion question

Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Arch_Near_Louvre_Nathan_&_Miranda_Todd_(10582357403).jpg has two regular editors (I'm one of them) voting to keep and disputing the stated reason for deletion request. Could you explain a bit more why you thought this needs deletion? Thank you for your attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:47, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

The photo appears to be a personal photo and would then be out of COM:SCOPE.Captain-tucker (talk) 00:51, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks much for your prompt reply. In this case I disagree with your decision. I have listed it at Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#File:Arch_Near_Louvre_Nathan_&_Miranda_Todd_(10582357403).jpg. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:11, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
No problem, please let me know the results, when it decided on COM:UNDEL. Captain-tucker (talk) 01:22, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

File:Bella Thorne for Vogue 2019 03.png

IMO, File:Bella Thorne for Vogue 2019 03.png should not have been speedy deleted. Even if the source video doesn’t currently have a free license, it did at one point and the image passed a license review. If there are doubts about the validity of that review, it should be brought to DR instead. clpo13(talk) 01:22, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

My apologies, you are correct. Deleting files while watching the 13th inning of a playoff baseball game is probably not the best idea :-). Captain-tucker (talk) 01:30, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Deletion of 권나라_2020.webp

hello @Captain-tucker Please can you undelete the file because the deletion request is just nominated and there is no single opinion based on, or any single hard evidence that proves any copyright infringement.   Thank you. 💖 Sakura Hana 🌸 (talk) 20:09, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

As per COM:DEL "requests can be closed by an administrator after seven days", the DR was created 7 days ago. If you have a reason why this file should be restored you can request undeletion at COM:UNDEL.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hi, if you have wondered why it doesn't work, just replace

File:Bob Chase Sr.jpg VTRS ticket

Please would you look at this file with a view to either confirming the ticket or possible other action on the file? Timtrent (talk) 09:25, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

@Timtrent: Someone sent in an email to the VRTS about this image last October. A request for more specific information was made and no response was ever received. So it can't be considered confirmed. Captain-tucker (talk) 18:57, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I have sent it for a deletion discussion. You may have seen already Timtrent (talk) 20:25, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

VRTS status of a file

Can you check if File:Sarah.webp has the right permissions? I nominated it for deletion but a user claiming to be the subject of the photo is saying it was already confirmed by VRTS. Bait30 (talk) pls ping me when you reply 20:10, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

@Bait30: Someone sent in an email to the VRTS about this image last November. A request for more specific information was made and no response was ever received. So it can't be considered confirmed. Captain-tucker (talk) 18:55, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Charles Weldon Cannon exhibit IMG 0247.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this project page, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

Question about two deleted files

Hello, Captain-tucker. On October 1st you deleted two photos, which I uploaded to Wikimedia, because of ARR. A few days ago, I found a Collectif-Objets site owned by the French Ministry of Culture that has the same pictures, but licensed under the etalab-2.0. Is it possible now to recover deleted photos for this reason?

Removed files I'm asking about:

 1. Statue (gisant) le Squelette, détail (467 x 700).jpg | This file is named "oa055_20215500227.jpg" on the Collectif Objets site. (8th photo out of 24 in the Collectif Objets' gallery, 8/24)
 2. Statue (gisant) le Squelette, vue partielle (467 x 700).jpg | This file is named "oa055_20215500230.jpg" on the Collectif Objets site. (11/24)

Iwego (talk) 16:22, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

@Iwego: Sorry for the delay. I have undeleted both files and updated the info on each page. You may want to re view those changes and update if necessary. Captain-tucker (talk) 13:53, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Files Martin Fröst by Mats Bäcker 1.jpg and 2 and 3

Hello Captain-tucker, Today the author Mats Bäcker sent you the release for these photos; I received a copy of it. Now Mats Bäcker tells me that you did not read him as the author in the picture information, but a Nicolaj Lund, which he cannot explain.

I have now read out the 3 photos myself and find the information Nicolaj Lund only on the 1st picture, not on the other two. There it says Mats Bäcker as the author. So these two photos are fine. The first photo is an adaptation of mine, in which I changed the original blue background. As a new background I copied the background from some photo and then projected the cropped photo of Mats Bäcker onto it. Obviously, the background of this is taken by Nicolaj Lund. I now replaced this picture with the blue original. This should clear up any confusion.

Please confirm now, that the copyright holder has approved publication under the terms of Wikimedia. Gisbert K (talk) 21:39, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

I added the permission tag on the three images and deleted the first version of File:Martin Fröst by Mats Bäcker 1.jpg which you said was adapted by you and not the original. Captain-tucker (talk) 13:00, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
