Notes

edit
  • Grave 8-12, Lot 108, Westminster Area, Cypress Hill Cemetery, 833 Jamaica Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, 11208-1593, USA.
  • Only Stanley Marlton Massey (1895-1902) and William Arthur Ensko II (1850-1889) have markers
  • Charles Frederick Lindauer (1835-1921) bought this plot for the death of his daughter, Louise Lindauer (1858-1859). She died on December 19, 1859 and the plot was bought on May 4, 1860. It is not known where the body was for the 5 months between her death and the purchase. She must have been in a single plot, then moved to the 5 plot area.
  • This photograph is useful in locating the graves since there are only two tombstones on the plot. There are 14 people buried in the plot which is the size of 5 standard plots. The two stones are for Stanley Marlton Massey (1895-1902) and William Arthur Ensko II (1850-1889). This photograph is from the back of the tombstones so you can see the large tree in front of the grave site. It took three trips to the cemetery for the graves to be found. They were finally located on April 23, 1999. The Lindauer line wasn't explored until the location of the death certificate of Jenny Gertrude Freudenberg (1888) in New Jersey which named this cemetery in Brooklyn as her place of burial. The cemetery asked for $50 to look up the names. When I looked at the photo, I realized that the name "Emsko" in the transcript was actually "Ensko". As soon as I got home, I looked for them in the phone book, and called Charles Ensko in Pennsylvania, and he told me to call his niece, Eloise Ensko Higgins in Hamilton, New Jersey. She told me: "I am looking at a photo of Sophie Weber, I keep it by my desk". (Source: Richard Arthur Norton)
