Commons:WikiProject Numismatics/Quick guide on importing images of banknotes
This guide is intended to help you find the right images banknotes and other form of paper currency to import to Wikimedia Commons.
- Step 1
Find an image of a banknote that you wish to import to Wikimedia Commons, as banknotes are considered to be 2D objects scans do not create new copyright and only the design itself would only have to be in the public domain or freely (re)usable.

Eligible - Scans of a banknote do not create new copyright.

Not eligible - Photographs taken of banknotes are seen as copyrighted because the photograph by virtue of artistic choices available to the photographer such as framing, lighting, and point of view.
- Step 2
Upload the file(s) to the MediaWiki Upload Wizard and fill in where the file came from, the original author(s), and what copyright protection (or lack thereof) it has (see: "Commons:Currency").
- Step 3
Give the file a descriptive name (so preferably not something akin to "banknote1.jpg"), add a file caption, informative description, date (of upload or first creation), and one or more categories. Now you can publish the file and add depicts statements.
- Step 4
The file can now be used on any Wikimedia project by using [[File:pagename]].
With illustrations

First find the image you want to upload.

Then save the image to your computer.

After uploading the image to the MediaWiki Upload Wizard fill in the source URL and the author (or organisation if the author is unknown).

Then add the appropriate license (further reading: "Commons:Currency").

Be sure to give the image a descriptive title and give a description of the file, don't forget to add the date of issuance and add it to an appropriate category.

You can now use the image(s) on other Wikimedia projects and other websites.
