  14. Evidence that people behave differently when acting on behalf of another, and in ways not easily explained by incentives, is not limited to risk. For example, Hannah Riley Bowles, Linda Babcock, and Kathleen L. McGinn (2005) find that women negotiate better prices when acting on behalf of a third party than when acting on behalf of themselves. Observe, however, that we find less risk taking even in circumstances where one would associate taking a chance with increased responsibility for others’ welfare, as well as with inequality aversion and with preferences for efficiency (compare L/H1 with L/H4). We caution, however, that this observation is based on a very small number of observations and would need to be probed further.
