Modeling and diagnostics for plasma discharge capillaries / Curcio, A (CERN) ; Bisesto, F (Frascati) ; Costa, G (Frascati) ; Biagioni, A (Frascati) ; Anania, M P (Frascati) ; Pompili, R (Frascati) ; Ferrario, M (Frascati) ; Petrarca, M (INFN, Rome ; U. Rome La Sapienza (main))
In this paper, we show how plasma discharge capillaries can be numerically modeled as resistors within an RLC-series discharge circuit, allowing for a simple description of these systems, while taking into account heat and radiation losses. An analytic radial model is also provided and compared to the numerical model for plasma discharge capillaries at thermal equilibrium, with corrections due to radiation losses. [...]

Towards the detection of nanometric emittances in plasma accelerators / Curcio, A (CERN) ; Anania, M (Frascati) ; Bisesto, F (Frascati) ; Chiadroni, E (Frascati) ; Cianchi, A (Frascati) ; Ferrario, M (Frascati) ; Filippi, F (Frascati) ; Giulietti, D (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Marocchino, A (Frascati) ; Mira, F (Rome U.) et al.
In this paper a technique to measure the phase space and the rms emittance of plasma accelerated electron beams is described. The first tests have been performed at the SPARC-LAB test facility through the interaction of the ultra-short ultra-intense Ti:Sa laser FLAME with a He gas-jet target. [...]

The Horizon 2020 Project EuPRAXIA ('European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications') aims at producing a design report of a highly compact and cost-effective European facility with multi-GeV electron beams using plasma as the acceleration medium. The accelerator facility will be based on a laser and/or a beam driven plasma acceleration approach and will be used for photon science, high-energy physics (HEP) detector tests, and other applications such as compact X-ray sources for medical imaging or material processing. Zemax ray tracing model for plasma waveguides / Bisesto, F (Frascati) ; Galletti, M (Lisbon, IST ; Rutherford) ; Curcio, A (CERN)
Plasma-based waveguides are currently employed for laser wakefield acceleration to extend the focal region of laser beams. A parabolic transverse plasma density profile, suitable for laser guiding, can be established in a dielectric capillary as a consequence of a discharge in gas. [...]

It is widely accepted by the international scientific community that a fundamental milestone towards the realization of a plasma driven future Linear Collider (LC) will be the integration of high gradient accelerating plasma modules in a short wavelength Free Electron Laser (FEL) user facility. The Horizon 2020 Project EuPRAXIA (European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications) is producing a conceptual design report for a highly compact and cost-effective European facility with multi-GeV electron beams accelerated using plasmas. EuPRAXIA will be set up as a distributed Open Innovation platform with two construction sites, one with a focus on beam-driven plasma acceleration (PWFA) and another site with a focus on laser-driven plasma acceleration (LWFA). From micro to macro and back: probing near-horizon quantum structures with gravitational waves / Maselli, Andrea (Rome U.) ; Pani, Paolo (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Cardoso, Vitor (U. Lisbon (main) ; CERN) ; Abdelsalhin, Tiziano (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Gualtieri, Leonardo (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Ferrari, Valeria (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome)
Supermassive binaries detectable by the future space gravitational-wave interferometer LISA might allow to distinguish black holes from ultracompact horizonless objects, even when the latter are motivated by quantum-gravity considerations. We show that a measurement of very small tidal Love numbers at the level of $10\%$ accuracy (as achievable with "golden binaries") may also allow to distinguish between different models of these exotic compact objects, even when taking into account an intrinsic uncertainty in the object radius putatively due to quantum mechanics. Impedance modelling and collective effects in the Future Circular e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ Collider with 4 IPs / Migliorati, M. (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Rome) ; Antuono, C. (INFN, Rome ; U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; CERN) ; Carideo, E. (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Rome ; CERN) ; Zhang, Y. (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys.) ; Zobov, M. (LNF, Dafne Light)
The FCC-ee impedance model is being constantly updated closely following the vacuum chamber design and parameters evolution. In particular, at present, a thicker NEG coating of 150 nm (instead of previous 100 nm) has been suggested by the vacuum experts, and a more realistic impedance model of the bellows has been investigated. On the wake of the results obtained so far at the SPARC\_LAB test-facility at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (Italy), we are currently investigating the possibility to design and build a new multi-disciplinary user-facility, equipped with a soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (FEL) driven by a $\sim$1 GeV high brightness linac based on plasma accelerator modules. This design study is performed in synergy with the EuPRAXIA design study. [...]
