Predicting dataset popularity for the CMS experiment / Kuznetsov, Valentin (Cornell U.) ; Li, Ting (Cornell U.) ; Giommi, Luca (Bologna U.) ; Bonacorsi, Daniele (Bologna U.) ; Wildish, Tony (Princeton U.)
The CMS experiment at the LHC accelerator at CERN relies on its computing infrastructure to stay at the frontier of High Energy Physics, searching for new phenomena and making discoveries. Even though computing plays a significant role in physics analysis we rarely use its data to predict the system behavior itself. [...]

A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. [...]

Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Distributed Analysis in CMS / CMS Collaboration
The CMS experiment expects to manage several Pbytes of data each year during the LHC programme, distributing them over many computing sites around the world and enabling data access at those centers for analysis. CMS has identified the distributed sites as the primary location for physics analysis to support a wide community with thousands potential users. [...]

PhEDEx Data Service / Egeland, Ricky (Minnesota U.) ; Wildish, Tony (Princeton U.) ; Huang, Chih-Hao (Fermilab)
The PhEDEx Data Service provides access to information from the central PhEDEx database, as well as certificate-authenticated managerial operations such as requesting the transfer or deletion of data. The Data Service is integrated with the SiteDB service for fine-grained access control, providing a safe and secure environment for operations. [...]

The CMS experiment is currently developing a computing system capable of serving, processing and archiving the large number of events that will be generated when the CMS detector starts taking data. During 2004 CMS undertook a large scale data challenge to demonstrate the ability of the CMS computing system to cope with a sustained data- taking rate equivalent to 25% of startup rate. [...]

Software packaging with DAR / Ratnikova, Natalia ; Afaq, Anzar ; Graham, Greg ; Lefébure, V ; Wildish, Tony
One of the important tasks in distributed computing is to deliver software applications to the computing resources. Distribution after Release (DAR) tool, is being used to package software applications for the world-wide event production by the CMS Collaboration. [...]
