A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

The CMS experiment is currently developing a computing system capable of serving, processing and archiving the large number of events that will be generated when the CMS detector starts taking data. During 2004 CMS undertook a large scale data challenge to demonstrate the ability of the CMS computing system to cope with a sustained data- taking rate equivalent to 25% of startup rate. [...]

The POOL project, as a part of the LHC Computing Grid (LCG), is now entering its third year of active development POOL provides the baseline persistency framework for three LHC experiment and is based on a strict component model, insulating experiment software from a variety of storage technology choices. This paper gives a brief overview of the POOL architecture, its main design principles and the experience gained with integration into LHC experiment frameworks. [...]

CMS currently uses a number of tools to transfer data which, taken together, form the basis of a heterogeneous datagrid. The range of tools used, and the directed, rather than optimized nature of CMS recent large scale data challenge required the creation of a simple infrastructure that allowed a range of tools to operate in a complementary way. The CMS Analysis Chain In a Distributed Environment / De Filippis, N (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) ; Maggi, G (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) ; Barrass, T (Bristol U.) ; Bonacorsi, D (INFN, CNAF) ; Corvo, M (CERN ; INFN, CNAF) ; Ciraolo, G (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Innocente, V (CERN) ; Donvito, G (Perugia U. ; INFN, Perugia) ; Maggi, M (INFN, Bari) ; Pierro, A (INFN, Bari) et al.
The CMS collaboration is undertaking a big effort to define the analysis model and to develop software tools with the purpose of analyzing several millions of simulated and real data events by a large number of people in many geographically distributed sites. From the computing point of view, one of the most complex issues when doing remote analysis is the data discovery and access. [...]
