Effects of Cavity Pre-Detuning on RF Power Transients at Injection into the LHC
/ Karlsen-Bæck, Birk Emil (CERN ; Rome U.) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Butterworth, Andrew (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Karpov, Ivan (CERN) ; Timko, Helga (CERN) ; Zampetakis, Michail (CERN)
At injection into the LHC, the RF system is perturbed by beam-induced voltage resulting in strong RF power transients and the instant detuning of the cavities. The automatic tuning system, however, needs time for the mechanical compensation of the resonance frequency to take place. [...]

Gas jet-based beam profile monitor for the electron beam test stand at CERN
/ Stringer, O (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Zhang, H (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Forck, P (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kumar, N (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. A non-invasive bidirectional beam profile monitor using beam-induced fluorescence upon a thin sheet of gas has been developed at the Cockcroft Institute in collaboration with CERN and GSI. This device is particularly suited to the Electron Beam Test Stand, and as such, a bespoke gas injection has been optimized for this specific use-case to provide diagnostics unavailable to conventional scintillator screens. Topologies for the kicker systems of the FCC-ee collider and injectors
/ Martinek, Petr (CERN) ; Favia, Giorgia (CERN) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Diaz Zumel, Miguel (CERN) ; Yue, Sen (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN)
A central part of CERN’s Future Circular collider study (FCC) is a ~91 km circumference lepton collider and its injector complex. This contribution outlines the various kicker systems needed to transport the lepton beams from the electron source up to the collider dump system. [...]

Tail population studies in the CERN Proton Synchrotron
/ Bozatzis, Miltiadis (Aristotle U., Thessaloniki ; CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Prebibaj, Tirsi (CERN) ; Van Goethem, Wietse (CERN)
The beam quality in terms of the transverse beam profiles from the CERN injectors plays a crucial role for the luminosity production at the LHC. Transverse tails beyond a Gaussian distribution have been observed in all the LHC injectors and efforts to optimize them are ongoing, as they can perturb operations due to large losses at LHC injection. A review of the 2023 antiproton physics run in the CERN antimatter factory

Despite a shorter-than-scheduled physics run due to a hardware problem, the AD/ELENA antiproton complex delivered record beam intensities to the experiments during the 2023 run. This paper reviews the performance of both the CERN Antiproton Decelerator (AD) and the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton (ELENA) decelerator and their associated transfer lines. [...]

Hybrid on-axis and off-axis top-up injection at the future circular lepton collider
/ Yue, Sen (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Johnson, Eliott (CERN) ; Martinek, Petr (CERN)
In order to maximize the integrated luminosity of the future circular lepton collider (FCC-ee), a top-up injection scheme is required. Amongst the four operation modes of FCC-ee, the Z operation mode has the highest stored beam energy in the collider ring with about 20 MJ per beam. [...]

SPS injection kicker system: 2023 operational experience and upgrade proposals for high-luminosity LHC

The SPS injection kicker system comprises twelve MKP-S (small aperture) modules and four MKP-L (large aperture) modules. An upgraded MKP-L magnet was installed in the SPS, during December 2022, in view of the higher beam intensity needed in the future for High-Luminosity-LHC. [...]

Assessment of the real part of the impedance of the LHC collimators with instability growth rate measurements

The impedance of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a source of instabilities and has to be monitored closely. It is usually assessed by measuring the tune-shift vs intensity, in particular at top energy where it is the most critical, as the collimators are the closest to the beam. [...]
