The Phase-2 upgrades at the High-Luminosity LHC of ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN will require a new tracker with readout electronics operating in extremely harsh radiation environment (1 Grad), high hit rate (3.5 GHz/cm2) and high data rate readout (5 Gb/s). The RD53 collaboration is a joint effort between the ATLAS and CMS to qualify the chosen 65 nm CMOS technology in high radiation environment and develop the pixel readout chips of both experiments. Beam-based commissioning of a novel X-band transverse deflection structure with variable polarization / González Caminal, P (DESY) ; Christie, F (DESY) ; D'Arcy, R (DESY) ; Jaster-Merz, S M (DESY) ; Assmann, R (DESY) ; Burkart, F (DESY) ; Conrad, B (DESY) ; Dinter, H (DESY) ; Foese, M (DESY) ; Herrmann, J (DESY) et al.
Longitudinal electron-beam diagnostics play a critical role in the operation and control of x-ray free-electron lasers, which rely on parameters such as the current profile, the longitudinal phase space, or the slice emittance of the particle distribution. On the one hand, the femtosecond-scale electron bunches produced at these facilities impose stringent requirements on the resolution achievable with the diagnostics. [...]

A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X- band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Experimental demonstration of novel beam characterization using a polarizable X-band transverse deflection structure / Marchetti, B (DESY ; European XFEL, Hamburg) ; Grudiev, A (CERN) ; Craievich, P (PSI, Villigen) ; Assmann, R (DESY) ; Braun, H H (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalan Lasheras, N (CERN) ; Christie, F (DESY) ; D'Arcy, R (DESY) ; Fortunati, R (PSI, Villigen) ; Ganter, R (PSI, Villigen) et al.
The PolariX TDS (Polarizable X-Band Transverse Deflection Structure) is an innovative TDS-design operating in the X-band frequency-range. The design gives full control of the streaking plane, which can be tuned in order to characterize the projections of the beam distribution onto arbitrary transverse axes. [...]

RD53 analog front-end processors for the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the High-Luminosity LHC / RD53 Collaboration
This work discusses the design and the main results relevant to the characterization of analog front-end processors in view of their operation in the pixel detector readout chips of ATLAS and CMS at the High-Luminosity LHC. The front-end channels presented in this paper are part of RD53A, a large scale demonstrator designed in a 65 nm CMOS technology by the RD53 collaboration. The collaboration is now developing the full-sized readout chips for the actual experiments.
