A Decade of Collectivity in Small Systems / Grosse-Oetringhaus, Jan Fiete (CERN) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
Signatures of collectivity, including azimuthally anisotropic and radial flow as well as characteristic hadrochemical dependencies, have been observed since long in (ultra)relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. [...]

Medium-enhanced $c\bar{c}$ radiation / Attems, Maximilian (CERN) ; Brewer, Jasmine (CERN) ; Innocenti, Gian Michele (CERN) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Park, Sohyun (CERN) ; van der Schee, Wilke (CERN) ; Soyez, Gregory (IPhT, Saclay) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
We show that the same QCD formalism that accounts for the suppression of high-$p_T$ hadron and jet spectra in heavy-ion collisions predicts medium-enhanced production of $c\bar{c}$ pairs in jets..

The medium-modified $ g\to c\overline{c} $ splitting function in the BDMPS-Z formalism / Attems, Maximilian (CERN) ; Brewer, Jasmine (CERN) ; Innocenti, Gian Michele (CERN) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Park, Sohyun (CERN) ; van der Schee, Wilke (CERN) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
The formalism of Baier-Dokshitzer-Mueller-Peigné-Schiff and Zakharov determines the modifications of parton splittings in the QCD plasma that arise from medium-induced gluon radiation. Here, we study medium-modifications of the gluon splitting into a quark--anti-quark pair in this BDMPS-Z formalism. [...]

Bremsstrahlung photons from stopping in heavy-ion collisions / Park, Sohyun (CERN) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
We examine the spectrum of bremsstrahlung photons that results from the stopping of the initial net charge distributions in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collier (LHC). This effect has escaped detection so far since it becomes sizable only at very low transverse momentum and at sufficiently forward rapidity. [...]

Backreaction from inhomogeneous matter fields during large-scale structure formation / Floerchinger, Stefan (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Tetradis, Nikolaos (Athens U.) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
We study how inhomogeneities of the cosmological fluid fields backreact on the homogeneous part of energy density and how they modify the Friedmann equations. In general, backreaction requires to go beyond the pressureless ideal fluid approximation, and this can lead to a reduced growth of cosmological large scale structure. [...]

Medium induced parton energy loss is not conclusively established neither in very peripheral heavy-ion collisions nor in proton-ion collisions. However, the standard interpretation of azimuthal momentum anisotropies in theses systems implies some partonic rescattering. [...]

Discovering partonic rescattering in light nucleus collisions / Huss, Alexander (CERN) ; Kurkela, Aleksi (CERN ; Stavanger U.) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Paatelainen, Risto (CERN) ; van der Schee, Wilke (CERN) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
We demonstrate that oxygen-oxygen (OO) collisions at the LHC provide unprecedented sensitivity to parton energy loss in a system whose size is comparable to those created in very peripheral heavy-ion collisions. With leading and next-to-leading order calculations of nuclear modification factors, we show that the baseline in the absence of partonic rescattering is known with up to 2% theoretical accuracy in inclusive OO collisions [...]

Hydrodynamization in systems with detailed transverse profiles / Kurkela, Aleksi (CERN ; Stavanger U.) ; Taghavi, Seyed Farid (Munich, Tech. U.) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN) ; Wu, Bin (CERN)
The observation of fluid-like behavior in nucleus-nucleus, proton-nucleus and high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions motivates systematic studies of how different measurements approach their fluid-dynamic limit. We have developed numerical methods to solve the ultra-relativistic Boltzmann equation for systems of arbitrary size and transverse geometry. [...]

This paper is a write-up of the ideas that were presented, developed and discussed at the third International Workshop on QCD Challenges from pp to A-A, which took place in August 2019 in Lund, Sweden. The goal of the workshop was to focus on some of the open questions in the field and try to come up with concrete suggestions for how to make progress on both the experimental and theoretical sides.
