Two-Dimensional Longitudinal Painting at Injection into the CERN PS Booster / Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bielawski, Bartosz Przemyslaw (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Wegner, Rolf (CERN)
To inject highest beam intensities at the transfer from Linac4 into the four rings of the PS Booster (PSB) at CERN, protons must be accumulated during up to 148 turns in total. With the conventional, fixed chopping pattern this process results in an approximately rectangular distribution in the longitudinal phase space. [...]

The LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project was put in place between 2010 and 2021 to increase the intensity and brightness in the LHC injectors to match the challenging requirements of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, while ensuring reliable operation of the injectors complex up to the end of the HL-LHC era (ca. 2040). High-Power Test of Two Prototype X-Band Accelerating Structures Based on SwissFEL Fabrication Technology / Millar, William L (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Wuensch, Walter (CERN) ; Lasheras, Nuria Catalan (CERN) ; McMonagle, Gerard (CERN) ; Zennaro, Riccardo (PSI, Villigen) ; Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Lucas, Thomas G (PSI, Villigen) ; Volpi, Matteo (CERN ; Melbourne U.) et al.
This article presents the design, construction, and high-power test of two X -band radio frequency (RF) accelerating structures built as part of a collaboration between CERN and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) for the compact linear collider (CLIC) study. The structures are a modified “tuning-free” variant of an existing CERN design and were assembled using Swiss free electron laser (SwissFEL) production methods. [...]

Summary of the First Fully Operational Run of LINAC4 at CERN / Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Bellodi, Giulia (CERN) ; Bielawski, Bartosz Przemyslaw (CERN) ; Borner, Robert (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Gousiou, Evangelia (CERN) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Parra-Lopez, Julien (CERN) et al.
In December 2020 the newly commissioned LINAC4 started delivering beam for the CERN proton accelerator chain, replacing the old LINAC2. LINAC4 is a 352 MHz normal conducting linac, providing a beam of negative hydrogen ions at 160 MeV that are converted into protons at injection into the PS Booster synchrotron. [...]

Achievements and Performance Prospects of the Upgraded LHC Injectors / Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Barrientos, Diego (CERN) et al.
To provide HL-LHC performance, the CERN LHC injector chain underwent a major upgrade during an almost 2-year-long shutdown. In the first half of 2021 the injectors were gradually re-started with the aim to reach at least pre-shutdown parameters for LHC as well as for fixed target beams. [...]

First Years of Linac4 RF Operation / Ramberger, Suitbert (CERN) ; Wegner, Rolf (CERN)
Following the construction, commissioning, run-in, and connection, in 2021 Linac4 at CERN saw its successful start-up to full operation. Being composed primarily of RF systems, occupying most of the tunnel and the equipment hall, a coordinated effort has been put in place by four RF teams providing cavities, amplifier chains, low-level RF and general control systems. It has been technically challenging to efficiently couple external radiofrequency (RF) power to cylindrical dielectric-loaded accelerating (DLA) structures. This is especially true when the DLA structure has a high dielectric constant. [...]

Dielectric-loaded accelerating (DLA) structures are being studied as an alternative to conventional disk-loaded copper structures to produce the high accelerating gradient. This paper presents the design, fabrication and low-power RF measurement of an externally-powered X-band DLA structure with a dielectric constant $\varepsilon$$_{r}$ = 16.66 and a loss tangent tan$_{\delta}$ = 3.43 x 10$^{-5}$.
