Charge radii of thallium isotopes near the N=126 shell closure / IDS Collaboration
The changes in the mean-squared charge radius of Tlg209 (N=128) and Tlm207 (N=126) relative to Tl205 have been measured for the first time using the in-source laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique with the Laser Ion Source and Trap (LIST) at ISOLDE (CERN). The application of the LIST suppresses the dominant background from isobaric francium isotopes and allows access to thallium nuclides with A⩾207. [...]

We have identified an isomeric state in $^{201}$Fr for which we propose a spin and parity of $13/2^+$, and interpret it as arising from the $\pi(i_{13/2})$ configuration. A half-life of 720(40) ns was measured, corresponding to $B(M2)=0.17(2)$ W.u., in good agreement with those of other $13/2^+ \to 9/2^- [\pi (i_{13/2}) \to \pi(h_{9/2})]$ transitions observed in other nuclei in the region. Fine structure in the α decay of $^{221}_{90}$Th, populating excited states in $^{217}_{88}$Ra, was studied using αγ-coincidence spectroscopy. Two α-decay branches from $^{221}$Th have been newly observed, with $E_{\alpha} \mathrm{(keV)} [b_{\alpha}(\%)]=7951(8)[0.14(3)]$ and $8247(3)[1.51(12)]$, together with three previously known branches. High-spin states in the $N = 128$ nucleus $^{218}$Th have been investigated following fusion–evaporation reactions, using the recoil-decay tagging technique. Due to the short-lived nature of the ground state of $^{218}$Th prompt $\gamma$ rays have been correlated with the $\alpha$ decay of the daughter nucleus $^{214}$Ra. [...]

Decay spectroscopy of $^{250}\mathrm{No}$ has been performed using digital electronics and pulse-shape analysis of the fast nuclear decays for the first time. Previous studies of $^{250}\mathrm{No}$ reported two distinct fission decay lifetimes, related to the direct fission of the ground state and to the decay of an isomeric state but without the possibility to determine if the isomeric state decayed directly via fission or via internal electromagnetic transitions to the ground state.
