Phys.) ; Král, Robert (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Zemenová, Petra (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Falvey, Alexandra (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Čuba, Václav (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Salomoni, Matteo (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Pagano, Fiammetta (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) et al.
For the first time, hafnia (HfO$_2$) nanoparticles have been produced by photochemical synthesis. The photochemical route has been proven to be scalable, affordable, and straightforward to create monoclinic HfO$_2$ nanoparticles with a size of tens of nanometers. [...]

A setup for vacuum-ultraviolet spectroscopy of the $^{229}$Th low-energy isomer
/ Kraemer, Sandro (KU Leuven ; LMU, Garching) ; Chhetri, Premaditya (KU Leuven) ; Bara, Silvia (KU Leuven) ; Claessens, Arno (KU Leuven) ; De Witte, Hilde (KU Leuven) ; Elskens, Yens (KU Leuven) ; Ferrer, Rafael (KU Leuven) ; Kudryavtsev, Yuri (KU Leuven) ; Sels, Simon (KU Leuven) ; Van Den Bergh, Paul (KU Leuven) et al.
The ground-state transition of the low-energy isomer in $^{229}$Th has been proposed as the basis for the development of a novel optical clock as a tool for fundamental-physics studies. Vacuum-ultraviolet studies of the 𝛽-decay of 229Ac recently enabled to measure the de-excitation energy of the isomer with a sevenfold improvement in precision compared to previous results by directly observing photons from the isomer’s radiative decay. NNLO Photon Production with Realistic Photon Isolation
/ Schuermann, Robin (Zurich U.) ; Chen, Xuan (Karlsruhe U., ITP ; KIT, Karlsruhe, IAP) ; Gehrmann, Thomas (Zurich U.) ; Glover, E.W.N. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Höfer, Marius (Munich U., ASC) ; Huss, Alexander (CERN)
Isolated photon production at hadron colliders proceeds via direct production and fragmentation processes. Theory predictions for the isolated photon and photon-plus-jet cross section often impose idealised photon isolation criteria, eliminating the fragmentation contribution and introducing a systematic uncertainty in the comparison to data. Highly luminescent scintillating hetero-ligand MOF nanocrystals with engineered Stokes shift for photonic applications
/ Perego, J (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Bezuidenhout, Charl X (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Villa, I (CTU, Prague) ; Cova, F (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Crapanzano, R (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Frank, I (CERN ; LMU Munich (main)) ; Pagano, F (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Kratochwill, N (CERN ; Vienna U.) ; Auffray, E (CERN) ; Bracco, S (Milan Bicocca U.) et al.
Large Stokes shift fast emitters show a negligible reabsorption of their luminescence, a feature highly desirable for several applications such as fluorescence imaging, solar-light managing, and fabricating sensitive scintillating detectors for medical imaging and high-rate high-energy physics experiments. Here we obtain high efficiency luminescence with significant Stokes shift by exploiting fluorescent conjugated acene building blocks arranged in nanocrystals. [...]

A group of Early-Career Researchers (ECRs) has been given a mandate from the European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) to debate the topics of the current European Strategy Update (ESU) for Particle Physics and to summarise the outcome in a brief document [1]. A full-day debate with 180 delegates was held at CERN, followed by a survey collecting quantitative input. [...]

Design and tests for the new CERN-ISOLDE spallation source: an integrated tungsten converter surrounded by an annular UC$_{\chi}$ target operated at 2000 °C
/ Ramos, J P (CERN) ; Ballan, M (INFN, Legnaro) ; Egoriti, L (TRIUMF ; British Columbia U.) ; Houngbo, D (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Rothe, S (CERN) ; Augusto, R S (CERN ; Munich U.) ; Gottberg, A (TRIUMF) ; Dierckx, M (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Popescu, L (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Marzari, S (CERN) et al.
The production of high intensity and isobarically pure neutron-rich fission fragments is of high importance for the physics research program of the ISOLDE facility at CERN. This is typically done in a two-step method where a tungsten converter, positioned parallel and below the UC$_{\chi}$ target, is irradiated with 1.4 GeV protons. [...]

Higgs boson pair production at colliders: status and perspectives
/ Di Micco, Biagio (ed.) (INFN, Rome3 ; Rome III U.) ; Gouzevitch, Maxime (ed.) (Lyon, IPN) ; Mazzitelli, Javier (ed.) (Zurich U.) ; Vernieri, Caterina (ed.) (SLAC) ; Alison, J. This document summarises the current theoretical and experimental status of the di-Higgs boson production searches, and of the direct and indirect constraints on the Higgs boson self-coupling, with the wish to serve as a useful guide for the next years. The document discusses the theoretical status, including state-of-the-art predictions for di-Higgs cross sections, developments on the effective field theory approach, and studies on specific new physics scenarios that can show up in the di-Higgs final state.
