A study of the ground states of the laser-ionized and mass-separated odd-odd isotopes $^{180,182}$Au was performed using the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source, Windmill detection setup and ISOLTRAP Multi-Reflection Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer at ISOLDE, CERN. A complex fine-structure α-decay pattern of $^{180}$Au was deduced, providing insight into the low-lying levels in the daughter nucleus $^{176}Ir$. [...]

Change in structure between the $I  = 1/2$ states in $^{181}$Tl and $^{177,179}$Au / Cubiss, J G (York U., England ; CERN) ; Barzakh, A E (Kurchatov Inst., Moscow) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAERI, Tokai ; CERN) ; Al Monthery, M (York U., England) ; Althubiti, N (Manchester U.) ; Andel, B (Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Atanasov, D (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Blaum, K (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cocolios, T E (Leuven U. ; Manchester U. ; CERN) et al.
The first accurate measurements of the $\alpha$-decay branching ratio and half-life of the $I^{\pi}=1/2^+$ ground state in $^{181}$Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and $I=1/2$ spin assignments of the ground states in $^{177,179}$Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced $\alpha$-decay widths and nuclear $g$ factors of low-lying, $I^{\pi}=1/2^+$ states in the neutron-deficient lead region. The online precision mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at ISOLDE/CERN was recently upgraded by adding a multi-reflection time-of-flight mass separator/spectrometer (MR-ToF MS) between the linear radio-frequency ion trap and the two Penning traps already in place. As a mass separator, the MR-ToF device has improved significantly ISOLTRAP's capability of purification of contaminated ion beams. [...]
