Measurement of the emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment / AWAKE Collaboration
The vertical plane transverse emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment at CERN has been determined, using three different methods of data analysis. [...]

Selective electron beam sensing through coherent Cherenkov diffraction radiation / Senes, E (CERN) ; Krupa, M (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Lasocha, K (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Shloegelhofer, A (CERN) ; Wendt, M (CERN) ; Davut, C (Manchester U.) ; Karataev, P (JAI, UK) ; Pakuza, C (JAI, UK) et al.
We exploit the coherent emission of Cherenkov diffraction radiation (ChDR) by a relativistic electron beam to sense its position even in the presence of other particle beams. ChDR is produced in alumina inserts embedded in the vacuum chamber walls and recorded in a narrow band centered at 30 GHz. [...]

Experimental Observation of Motion of Ions in a Resonantly Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator / AWAKE Collaboration
We show experimentally that an effect of motion of ions, observed in a plasma-based accelerator, depends inversely on the plasma ion mass. [...]

Python Expert Applications for Large Beam Instrumentation Systems at CERN / Martínez Samblas, Javier (CERN) ; Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Gonzalez-Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN)
In recent years, beam diagnostics systems with increasingly large numbers of monitors, and systems handling vast amounts of data have been deployed at CERN. Their regular operation and maintenance poses a significant challenge. [...]

Integration of an MPSoC-based acquisition system into the CERN control system / Balci, Elif (CERN) ; Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Gonzalez-Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN)
Future generations of Beam Instrumentation systems will be based on Multiprocessor System on Chip (MPSoC) technology. This new architecture will allow enhanced exploitation of instrumentation signals from CERN’s accelerator complex, and has thus been chosen as the next platform for several emerging systems. [...]

Electron beam studies on a beam position monitor based on Cherenkov diffraction radiation / Pakuza, Collette (JAI, UK) ; Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Schloegelhofer, Andreas (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN) ; Spear, Bethany (JAI, UK) ; Senes, Eugenio (CERN) ; Lasocha, Kacper (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) et al.
A beam position monitor based on Cherenkov diffraction radiation (ChDR BPM) is currently under investigation to disentangle the electromagnetic field of an electron bunch from that of a proton bunch travelling together in time and space in the beam-line of the AWAKE plasma acceleration experiment at CERN. The signals from a horizontal pair of ChDR BPM radiators have been studied under a variety of beam conditions at the CLEAR electron beam test facility. [...]

Recording two-beam LHC BPM signals to validate a technique for extracting individual beam positions / Bett, Douglas (Oxford U.) ; Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN)
As part of the High Luminosity upgrade for the Large Hadron Collider, several new directive-coupler (stripline) BPMs will be installed near the ATLAS and CMS detectors where the two counter-rotating beams exist within a single beampipe. In the worst case scenario, the bunches of the second beam arrive at the BPM location just 4 ns after those of the first and the BPM signals from the two beams overlap significantly. [...]

HL-LHC BPM electronics development as a case study for direct digitization and integrated processing techniques in accelerator instrumentation / Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN)
The technological evolution of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters increases the amount of data that can be processed in the digital domain. Therefore, direct digitization enables many advanced signal processing techniques and is attracting more and more attention in the field of accelerator instrumentation. [...]

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, that we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma skin depth for the instability to occur. [...]
