The XYU-GEM: Ambiguity-free coordinate readout of the Gas Electron Multiplier / Flöthner, K J (CERN ; Bonn U., HISKP) ; Janssens, D (CERN ; Brussels U., IIHE ; Vrije U., Brussels) ; Brunbauer, F (CERN) ; Ferry, S (CERN) ; Ketzer, B (Bonn U., HISKP) ; Lisowska, M (CERN ; IRFU, Saclay) ; Muller, H (CERN ; Bonn U.) ; de Oliveira, R (CERN) ; Oliveri, E (CERN) ; Orlandini, G (CERN ; Erlangen - Nuremberg U.) et al.
We describe the development of a position-sensitive Gas Electron Multiplier detector prototype, providing for each ionizing event three coordinates: the cartesian X and Y, and U at 45°. Simultaneous recording of the three projections permits ambiguity-free reconstruction of multiple tracks, and aims at operation in very high intensity radiation fields..

The novel XYU-GEM to resolve ambiguities / Flöthner, K.J. (CERN ; Bonn U., HISKP) ; Brunbauer, F. (CERN) ; Ferry, S. (CERN) ; Garcia, F. (Helsinki U.) ; Janssens, D. (CERN) et al.
Removing ambiguities within a single stage becomes crucial when one can not use multiple detectors behind each other to resolve them which naturally is the case for neutral radiation. An example would be RICH detectors. [...]

We present a method of embedding a Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) into a flexible printed circuit board (FPC) and its interconnection by means of through-hole copper plating. The resulting assembly, baptised "MAPS foil", is a flexible, light, protected, and fully integrated detector module. [...]

The CMS experiment at LHC will upgrade its forward muon spectrometer by incorporating Triple-GEM detectors. This upgrade referred to as GEM Endcap (GE1/1), consists of adding two back-to-back Triple-GEM detectors in front of the existing Cathode Strip Chambers (CSC) in the innermost ring of the endcap muon spectrometer. R&D on a new type of micropattern gaseous detector: The Fast Timing Micropattern detector / CMS Collaboration
Micropattern gaseous detectors (MPGD) underwent significant upgrades in recent years, introducing resistive materials to build compact spark-protected devices. Exploiting this technology further, various features such as space and time resolution, rate capability, sensitive area, operational stability and radiation hardness can be improved. [...]

For the LHC High Luminosity phase (HL-LHC) the CMS GEM Collaboration is planning to in- stall new large size triple-GEM detectors in the forward region of the muon system (1.5< j h |<2.2) of the CMS detector. The muon reconstruction with triple-GEM chambers information included have been successfully integrated in the official CMS software, allowing physics studies to be carried out. [...]

Overview of large area triple-GEM detectors for the CMS forward muon upgrade / CMS Collaboration
We report on the status of the project to install large-area triple-foil gas electron multiplier (GEM) detectors in the end-cap muon system of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the LHC operating at the high luminosity planned after the current period of data-taking (run 2). In the pseudo-rapidity region $1.6 < \lvert\eta\rvert < 2.4$, the GEM detectors will suppress the rate of background triggers while maintaining high trigger efficiency for low transverse momentum muons, and enhancing the robustness of muon detection in the high-flux environment of the end-cap region.
