Comparison of Two Detector Magnetic Systems for the Future Circular Hadron-Hadron Collider / Klyukhin, Vyacheslav (SINP, Moscow ; CERN) ; Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Berriaud, Christophe Paul (IRFU, Saclay) ; Curé, Benoit (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Hervé, Alain (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Mentink, Matthias (CERN) ; Riegler, Werner (CERN) et al.
The conceptual design study of a Future Circular hadron-hadron Collider (FCC-hh) to be con-structed at CERN with a center-of-mass energy of the order of 100 TeV requires superconducting magnetic systems with a central magnetic flux density of an order of 4 T for the experimental detectors. The developed concept of the FCC-hh detector involves the use of an iron-free magnetic system consisting of three superconducting solenoids. [...]

Engineering challenges in mechanics and electronics in the world’s first particle-flow calorimeter at a hadron collider: The CMS high-granularity calorimeter / Gerwig, Hubert (CERN)
The CMS Collaboration is preparing to build replacement endcap calorimeters for the HL-LHC era. The new high-granularity calorimeter (HGCAL) is, as the name implies, a highly-granular sampling calorimeter with 47 layers of absorbers (mainly lead and steel) interspersed with active elements: silicon sensors in the highest-radiation regions, and scintillator tiles equipped with on-tile SiPMs in regions of lower radiation. This review article describes the performance of the magnetic field measuring and monitoring systems for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector. To cross-check the magnetic flux distribution obtained with the CMS magnet model, four systems for measuring the magnetic flux density in the detector volume were used. [...]

Superconducting detector magnets baseline designs for particle physics experiments at the Future Circular Collider / Bielert, Erwin (CERN ; Illinois U., Urbana (main)) ; Berriaud, Christophe (Saclay) ; Cure, Benoit (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Ilardi, Veronica (Twente U., Enschede ; CERN) ; Klyukhin, Vyacheslav (Lomonosov Moscow State U. ; CERN) ; Kulenkampff, Tobias K D (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Mentink, Matthias (CERN) et al.
In early 2014 a design study started at CERN for a Future Circular Collider. A new tunnel with a circumference of about 100 km for the collider magnets is foreseen as well as new general-purpose particle detectors to probe electron-positron (e$^-$e$^+$), electron-hadron (eh), and hadron-hadron (hh) collisions, housed in large underground caverns. Using the Standard Linear Ramps of the CMS Superconducting Magnet for Measuring the Magnetic Flux Density in the Steel Flux Return Yoke / Klyukhin, Vyacheslav (SINP, Moscow ; CERN) ; Curé, Benoit (CERN) ; Amapane, Nicola (INFN, Turin) ; Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Herve, Alain (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Loveless, Richard (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Mulders, Martijn (CERN)
The principal difficulty in large magnetic systems having an extensive flux return yoke is to characterize the magnetic flux distribution in the yoke steel blocks. Continuous measurements of the magnetic flux density in the return yoke are not possible and the usual practice uses software modelling of the magnetic system with special three-dimensional (3-D) computer programs. Design of the Optional Forward Superconducting Dipole Magnet for the FCC-hh Detector / Bielert, Erwin R (CERN) ; Berriaud, Christophe (Saclay) ; Cure, Benoit (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Ilardi, Veronica (Twente U., Enschede ; CERN) ; ten Kate, Herman H J (CERN) ; Klyukhin, Vyacheslav I (SINP, Moscow ; CERN) ; Kulenkampff, Tobias K D (TU Vienna ; CERN) et al.
A 4-T, 10-m free bore and 20-m long central solenoid is proposed as the main magnet in the baseline detector for the future circular collider (FCC) hadron–hadron collisions physics program. Besides the 4-T axial magnetic field around the interaction point in the center of the main solenoid, additionally, magnetic field is required in the forward directions. [...]

Design of 4 Tm Forward Dipoles for the FCC-hh Detector Magnet System / Mentink, Matthias (CERN) ; Pais Da Silva, Helder (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey (CERN) ; Rolando, Gabriella (CERN) ; Cure, Benoit (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Klyukhin, Vyacheslav (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Wagner, Udo (CERN) ; Ten Kate, Herman (CERN)
The 4 T, 10 m free bore twin Solenoid with 4 Tm forward dipoles is discussed with an emphasis on the forward dipoles. This assembly, a possible detector magnet layout for the future circular collider for hadron-hadron physics, combines a 4 T axial magnetic field at the interaction point in the center of the twin Solenoid with off-axis magnetic fields generated by the two forward dipoles for the purpose of providing bending power to all particles emanating from the interaction point. An aggressive low-mass and high-stress design of a very large detector magnet assembly for the Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh), consisting of a “twin solenoid” and two dipoles, is presented. The twin solenoid features two concentric solenoids. [...]
