LEGO Alpha Team - Alpha Team Robot Diver
The Alpha Team Robot Diver (4790) is a LEGO Alpha Team set which came out in 2002. It comes with 1 minifig and 32 pieces. This set does include no decals and there're no mistakes in the instructions and no missing pieces.
Minifigures:
Agent Charge: Agent Charge comes with a blue suit and a dark grey helmet with transparent blue goggles. On his face you can see black sunglasses and a headset.
Alpha Team Robot Diver:
The alpha team robot diver comes with two arms on each side which can be moved. One hand is holding a gun which has a flame on it. On the top of the mech you can see two headlights and on the back you can see the engines. On each side, you can also see a joystick for the minifig. This set also comes with a plant and a bomb with a skull in it.
Alternative builds:
These are some alternative builds which we get. There're no instructions for them in this set. You can find these ideas on the back of the box or on the instructions.
Positive:
Great pieces which you can use for brickfilms or MOC's
Minifig
No stickers
Ideas which you can find on the back of the box
Negative:
Not so many play features
All in all, it's a great set to get, and I would highly recommend you to get this model. You can find this set on eBay and BrickLink for sure. Here is the link where you can check out the full gallery I made for this set on my website: www.klokriecher.de

Diving into my first review
I've owned a fair few older sets across the years, including some alpha team ones, but this set was the first retired set that I bought sealed in the box... which I promptly opened. Yeah, I'm one of those people. Anyway, the review:
MINIFIGURES
This set includes only one minifigure, that being Agent Charge. Considering the size of this set however, it's completely appropriate. His wetsuit includes some very detailed printing by 2002 standards, what with the intricately detailed utility belt and a mesh design peeking out under his collar. The face is similarly elaborate, although his expression is a little odd. To top him off, we have both hair and helmet pieces, a small bonus I was not expecting. Although, if this is deep sea, then I don't think a snorkel will be much use!
BUILDS
Despite having a mere 32 pieces, three builds are included, so let's go smallest to largest. We have a very simple build for some seaweed, which does the job well considering it only comprises 2 elements. Then we reach the source of danger for this mission, one of many ogel orbs. there's not much to it, with only 1 more part than the seaweed, but it really looks the part, with the excellent printed skull inside and the transparent green dome encasing it looking quite grimy and evil, as it should. Finally, we reach the main event, the pseudo mech suit, and despite the whole thing basically consisting of a sparse selection of parts attached to a big one piece frame, there's a lot to like. For example, the main body features sublime printing showing some tubing on a backdrop of warning stripes. But if that doesn't sell you, the arms definitely will. They're made of those technic hinges that give each joint a huge range of motion, allowing for all sorts of poses. Gripped in one of it's claws is a... Flamethrower? But how would that work underwater? Okay, lets just say it's a high tech, waterproof laser cutter and move on.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Going by the price sticker on my box, this would have originally set you back £3, about a fiver nowadays. That's about double the price of a modern CMF, meaning this was a perfect impulse buy back in the day for those who wanted a taste of the theme without breaking the bank (Or more accurately, the pocket money). Today, you'll have to pay a bit more, especially if you want it MISB like I did. I snagged my copy for a fairly reasonable £25 or so, but who knows what it's worth now? Prices on second hand sites fluctuate constantly, so all I can say on that is happy hunting!
CONCLUSION
Alpha Team is often ignored or passed off as one of many failed experiments lego tried during their infamous financial trouble. But I think it deserves so much more love than it's given. This set serves as a brilliant showcase for everything I find so enjoyable about the range: exquitisite printing, great playability and just this undefinable charm that keeps bringing me back to Alpha Team. As one of lego's first action oriented ips, it paved the way for so many of the themes we love today, like Agents, Ninjago, and even Monkie Kid to an extent. So yeah, very good set from a very good (And underrated) theme.

Unique, Incredible, Classic - need I say more?
The thing that best stands out in this little set is the unique pieces, like the seaweed, the transparent yellow orb, the robotic arms, the robotic hands, the yellow body piece, the gun... every piece is either unique, rare, or classic. The minifigure's (Charge's) wet suit, pants and the minifigure's head are nicely designed. The pros and cons are listed below.
Pros:
- Very good selection of pieces.
- Great minifigure.
- Reasonable Price
Cons:
- Arms are not all that flexible.
Overall, 5/5. Great selection of pieces for a small price.

One of the best alpha team sets!
- I really love this little set!
Pros
Charge,
One of the few alpha team characters that did not get their face altered in 2002,
Finally a small alpha team set with an Ogel orb,
Includes Charges hair and scuba helmet (most modern sets only one or the other),
a little clump of seaweed for the Ogel orb to hide in,
Rare robot diver piece,
Includes separate comic (most alpha team sets have them connected on the back of the instructions)
Cons
Charge cannot wear an air tank while he is in the robot suit
The Ogel orb doesn't have a little translucent orange stud on the dome top
It might not have hurt to add an Ogel Drone to guard the orb
Is that thing coming from Charges weapon Fire?!
Overall 5/5
