I have a soft spot for anything Shell.

As a kid I always idolized Shell and Ferrari racers like these and wanted to collect them all. Now they don't interest me as much, guess I'm not as easily captivated by the color red anymore!

I loved all these little Shell sets. I don't own nearly enough of them.

It's interesting how they completely dropped Shell for their fictional Octan fuel for a while and I thought that was that partnership done for. But then apparently they did continue putting out random little sets like this later (albeit without the iconic white top, red stripe, yellow bottom color design). I wonder how that went internally.

^ Yeah, this was '99. Even the good Town sets weren't great.

Once you got past Town Jr (which at this point was still ghastly), you had these Shell sets and the Spaceport sets. Both of those suffered from juniorisation, but not as bad as the main town line (although still pretty bad).

I've got to say, as annoyed as I was that Lego caved to pressure on the Shell partnership, I've always liked the company precisely because it was associated with Lego. So I guess the brainwashing worked!
