A very stark colour scheme. Doesn't give nice warm vibes.

It's from Toy Story 5.

This is one I need to pick up one day, the wolf tribe vehicles in particular were so sick looking.

I wonder how some of these Chima sets would look with all the modern pieces and techniques available today; when you compare Ninjago sets from this time to the most recent sets it's such an improvement! I wasn't aware of this set until much after it was released, since none of the Chima books or Lego catalogs seemed to acknowledge its existence.

OMIGOSH I WANT THIS SO MUCH

BECAUSE WINDRA

Really sad that I missed my chance to get this. There was a Bricklink listing that was only $90 with a slightly damaged box, but it has since disappeared and now the cheapest sealed copy in the US is $120 and my disappointment is immeasurable.

I decided early on that Worriz was my favourite character in Chima, and got all offended when the cartoon said he was smelly. I still wound up with like three of him, though.

Also, this set shouldn't be tagged "Raven Tribe," right?

By in Australia,

love how this one splits into multiple vehicles, basically giving you an army with one set. the oversized bike hidden at the back was particularly unexpected.

QUICK LORE

Magic water called Chi!

Made the animals smart!

Lion's and Crocodiles had a falling out, went to war!

Wolves sided with the Crocs but betrayed them a lot!

The Wolves were a nomadic tribe, using this as their mobile headquarters!

QUICK LORE!!!

In all seriousness though, I was actually kind of bummed how this set was treated in the show. Both the set descriptions and the show claimed the Wolves were nomads, and the Wolves' village in the show was essentially just this truck, a bunch of tents, and some cheap wooden walls. Despite this, the camp was never actually relocated anywhere, it remained on the same barren rock with a few nearby cliffs for the entire thing. If they were actual nomads you'd expect them to pack up the tents, fold up the barriers, and pack 'em all into the truck to head off for a new spot, but no they spent at least half a year in the same location. I blame the show's budget, but at least it got more to work with than Nexo Knights.

How funny. I was at this Lego event yesterday and this set was for sale. I'm sure if @AverageChimaEnjoyer was with me he would have purchased it immediately.

You can get sort of an idea for some of them by looking at the wolf motifs in some of this year's Ninjago sets, or the Midnight Raven set in the upcoming Dreamzzz wave. In general, shaping and detail have both come a long way since Chima!

That said despite being somewhat boxy/clunky compared to modern sets, I did think this set was really cool. I love a good mobile base with lots of room for vehicles and cargo.

Maybe the brick separator is an honorary member of their tribe? You know, because it’s used to “lift” parts off of models.

It includes a Raven, hence the tag.

I have three of this set. I had one, then a local hobby store was having an end-of-summer clearance. Some Lego sets were discounted 10-20%, then buy one, get one free. I got two more of this, the TMNT Turtle Sub, a Superman set, and four Soeedorz, all for IIRC $120. What a great weekend.

By in United States,

The weapons the Chima minifigs had were really cool. Have any of those shown up in Ninjago?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't know what to say right now.
I'm burnt out on how amazing the Finale to Acolyte was (seriously why couldn't the whole show been that good?), and then debating with someone that was insistent that the Ninjago movie is part of the same continuity as the other three LEGO movies. The Ninjago Movie is absolutely separate from LEGO Movie, LEGO Batman, and LEGO Movie 2, how could he not just intuitively know this from watching them?

Oh yeah, Chima... awoooooo...

Eris is an Eagle. Grizzam is a Gorilla. The other four are Wolves. Six minifigs, no Ravens. If any was a Raven, they’d have a name that starts with “R”.

Hmmm...never realized how much "Road Warrior"/"Mad Max" influence there was in Chima...I mean, remove the mechs, and you're pretty well there...well maybe pull the swords...and the 'Chi'...:)

@PurpleDave: Relatively, I always laugh how Furty, a fox, is classed as being part of the wolves...um...no. I mean: yes, both are in the canine family...but no, they're not 'the same thing'...

While the Ninjago sets of today look great, I have a fondness for the original sets. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I like them better, back when they were simpler.

Yes! Windra! She’s amazing! Only 2013 Chima minifigure I’m missing and as such I’m always looking for this set

By in Turkey,

The vehicle is interesting but at this time I'm more interested in the minifigures. They look great. I'ld rather have just the figures, than the whole set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

At the time I was't fond of most Chima vehicles with whels because they usually were very technic-like ad had a lot of bdget allocated to the animal head (the raven and eagle flyers were great though).
This one interested me but I found it disappointing that there's not really a 'base' once all the vehicles sepeate, only a section with two cells that's awkwardly left over. So no interior.

But man, I wish we get more stuff like this now. Just a crazy set with many things splitting off. Currently the focus is more on rigidity it seems, so when there's modularity you're left with a skeleton to put everyhing in. But often times something is just one big thing. That's why I like the current City Space theme. There's modularity at least (although those aren't too crazy. Monkie Kid has some as well... but I haven't seen those for sale over here.

Haven’t you been paying attention during Fabuland RSotD comments?

By in Netherlands,

If only all the chima characters didn’t have the chi-glowy bulb on their chests, their torsos were so much more useful in figbarfs.
Plus i like the name Wilhurt

Chima sets are WILD!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Great set, but I wish instead of those random side cycles it had propper Speedorz.

Also not many people notice that but every tribe has own theme to their vechicles:
>Lions: Multi terrain heavy weapons vechicles
>Ravens: Always have place for cargo
>Eagles: Rescue pods
>Crocs: Opening jaws to take prisioners in
>Wolfs: Working toghether as a pack
They sadly dropped this in later subthemes.

Oh wow the new Dreamzzz Never Witch Raven is excellent! (71478) I think it looks a lot more fleshed out than say, 70012, but the Chima one is certainly better at looking like a mechanical raven. The mishmash of parts also works particularly well given the theming! It indeed looks like it was built from scrap metal.

By in Chad,

Chima does not disappoint. This set's copter and claw vehicles are great play features, and the Wolf tribe color scheme is appropriately foreboding.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems like something that would be in a video game, I’m not sure quite which one, though.

By in United States,

I remember this set well. Such a great build and like all the Chima sets, fantastic minifigures. I got it for $30 on a Christmas sale from LEGO.com. Man they used to have such good sales.

By in India,

This was one of the biggest sets I had when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun! I can only imagine what it would be like with today's parts and building techniques.

@PurpleDave: But I do follow the Fabuland RSotD...um, 'stuff' (in the George Carlin sense of the term). I still maintain: Chima before Fab., as their society really improved when they dropped the royal families and worked on cities san species-specification...Hmm...Zootopia before Zootopia...except folks like Richard Scarry did stuff like that first. Yes, Dismal too...:D

Mmm, no, the order is Animal Crossing, then Fabuland (after the humans are wiped out), then read Animal Farm, and then Chima (when most of the herbivores are gone).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh I liked this one! I found it in the clearance isle at walmart for like $30 what felt like a year after it retired? My guess is someone argued with CS to get it returned, but I was shocked at how much fun the set was! There are SO many play features that I don't feel like I find very often in sets anymore.

By in United States,

It still feels so surreal to me that this, one of the Chima sets I've been desperately wanting, was selected for RSotD.

Ultimately I've decided to skip out on this for now. I'll just be patient and maybe, someday, I'll be browsing a Bricks & Minifigs out of town or I'll randomly scroll Ebay and I'll find a good deal on this. Maybe, maybe not.

As for Windra, she's definitely going to be cheaper to just part out from multiple vendors than pay $20 for her up front. There's one seller on Bricklink who has everything but her torso and cape, so at least hopefully, sometime in the future, I'll still be able to obtain my favorite LoC character!

And when I do I am totally building a mech for her. Just for the sheets and giggles.
