Today's random set is 603 Motorbike, released during 1978. It's one of 36 Town sets produced that year. It contains 26 pieces and 1 minifig.

It's owned by 660 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $170.20, or eBay.

By in New Zealand,

They should have called it a motorised tricycle as it has three wheels, not two!

And what is he holding? Also, $170.20 for a new one of these! crikey!

That sidecar's going to present some problems when you accelerate and brake. Good-bye 1x2 brick representing... something.

The brick is obviously a black box. It has to be particularly sturdy, because that crash is going to be absolutely epic.

It's interesting to see how consistent they used this specific stack of gray plates for handlebars in early Town. This one is just missing the front light STAMP...

I'm also sometimes surprised how far the blue helmet predates the first blue Classic Space figure.

This is how they used to build spaceships.

"The picture on the front box is not representative of the real set. The real set is one plate 'higher' or 'thicker' depending on how you look at it. The set, as pictured here, would be very weak and fragile. The set as per the instructions was probably quite sturdy (except for the black box)."
I don't think the thicker version looks quite as good. It's too thick. I'll try to replicate this with my spares. Why? Because I like classics.

Random Set of the Day always takes a pause on Saturday, giving room for Vintage Set of the Week

Wow, never noticed that - and I'm one of the 660 who own this set. Another example of the box art not matching the final set.............

This is so blocky, it's coming back around to being charming. I want to piece one together now and see how it handles (can't be any worse than the City Centre/Town Jr. era trikes).

Agreed. But to anybody who thinks Lego has become expensive, you’d feel cheated if you bought a polybag in 2024 and there was only this number of pieces inside!

I was too young for the early town sets and they had largely disappeared from the shelves before I had any Lego, so to me 6622 > 603 but I can appreciate its appeal, not least because the minifig can actually operate the vehicle unlike 608-2 etc.

Black (leather?) pants, red jacket, blue helmet.

Funnily, that blue helmet is the the only one where chipstrap cracked for me, none of my classic space ones ever did.
Also, it has 16 pieces, not 26.

Maybe because this one's significantly older. The blue spacemen didn't come out until about midway through the 80s. I never had any cracked spacemen helmets, so Benny's helmet reference in the LEGO Movie fell a bit flat for me.
