Buggy buggy buggy.

Why is he holding an ol' toilet seat?

By in Canada,

Well, there's a couple trans neon green 1x1 round plates. And those whole parts holding them aren't too bad, either. And the yellow 1x4 brick and two inverted slopes are useful.

That's it, that's all I got. I had this set as a child, and all I really remember it for is it's lameness.

By in Australia,

It's probably one of the least-horrible Town Jr sets, which isn't saying a lot, but any port in a storm.

@StyleCounselor It's for the unfortunate event that, if he can't save someone from drowning, he'll throw a large ceramic object at them to knock them out and finish them off faster.

This must be a buggy in the Deep South sense, like you use to shop for groceries. No way that has any source of power that's not gravity.

I absolutely loved this set as a kid, and I'm so nostalgic for it. Super fun and swooshable, in a wheeled way, and the front piece was such a cool shape too... good times :)

By in Canada,

Oh I got this one in a bulk bin I have yet to sort (which isn't saying much because I must have 100 of those). I remember it because it was sitting on top of the parts pile, almost fully built.

Does the number on the front have some meaning? I know they normally sneak the set number in for stuff like that but that's clearly different

All (both?) of the Coast Guard sets of this wave used the same number system on their vehicles: the Brickset database photo sadly doesn’t show it super well, but in 6435, the ship is C501, the helicopter is C502, and the truck is C503. This buggy must have simply been (in-universe) the next vehicle in the LEGO City Coast Guard’s roster of equipment, and I assumed the C was for Coast, or Coast Guard. I remember thinking it was cool they added that continuity and uniformity, back before the advent of using set numbers.

One of my first sets ever!! Love this one to a fault.

By in United Kingdom,

Hey, it had a nice printed part, and that’s good enough for me.

Seems like they are steering away from stickers in smaller sets like these lately which I’m appreciative of.

By in New Zealand,

for once an interesting town face print

By in Poland,

Yes, it's juniorised, but I have strong positive feelings toward this set. I didn't have it, but it was one of the prebuilt cars available in Lego Racers 2 which I played a lot as a kid.

Besides, I'll take any set that has Lego System™ slapped on the front page.

Ah so we’re basically working off Thunderbirds logic, cool

By in Turkey,

This one actually looks nice and colorful for a juniorised set. Yet, having seen the 80's and 90's, I still wouldn't buy it.

Just.Can't. Give it a like. Just can't.

By in Australia,

Not a great set, but that figure is pretty neat.

I mean, that's utter bobbins, the height of late-90s laziness and reliance on large ugly pieces, but come on, it's $3. even in 1999 $3 is fine for getting a little buggy and a guy.

6518 was the same price. Which one would you choose?

By in United Kingdom,

Had this set as a cub! It was the only Coast Guard set I owned. I liked it for the small vehicle base in black (I only had yellow ones otherwise) and the printed cockpit part.

By in Netherlands,

I had have this set from when it originally came out!
It's a sleek (for the time) design. As I also owned 6518 Baja Buggy, this one was always second favorite.
But for a City Center set (2000 Town Jr) this one wasn't too bad thanks to its sleek shape (for the time).

Come to think of it, that part was designed for jet scooters in the mid 90s. No wonder it has such a sleek design (for the time).

*SANDY BAY MUSIC FROM LEGO RACERS 2 INTENSIFIES*

Was this the car that was permanently parked on the beach in the perfect spot for you to crash into every time you passed it - and, unlike the cars we got to drive, was completely indestructible - or was that a different Coast Guard set? I don't remember, I never really paid that much attention to Town sets and it's been a hot minute since I played the game due to my current laptop not having enough disc space to install it.

(And unlike literally every other game I can't tell Racers 2 to install on a different drive where I have much more space: it refuses to even launch the installer if there isn't enough space on the default drive. A little frustrating! But I digress.)

I don't have much frame of reference for the set outside of that game: Lego Racers 2 was the first and only time I encountered it until I started browsing Brickset maybe a decade later.

By in Netherlands,

I think this is one of those sets that sent me screaming into my dark ages. What an absolute turd on wheels.

Wait, no. Be positive, Ridgeheart. Try.

I like the alliteration! "Beach Buggy"! I appreciate that!

At $3 each? Both.

By in United States,

Got this set on a bulk purchase. The blue antenna with the flag makes this set a good find. That part is fairly rare. And you can never have too many red bar fence parts!

By in United States,

Chiming in as someone who owns one of these. No regrets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow there's so much alt build potential, like you can.... remove the wheels and its a small boat thing. Uh, I don't think there's much else i can think of. Adjusted for inflation today it's still at most $6, but I think something nowadays that would be $10 would be worth the price difference.

Probably still this one. That big yellow thingy piece can find new life elsewhere, as some sort of cockpit of something.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I basically got this because of it's appearance in Lego Racers 2. Also the orange life buoy is kind of uncommon. Oddly though it also has the only one of those flag-antennas non-stickered that I have.

The minifig appeared in Racers 2 as well, simply called 'Tony'.

This is and 6518 were my only Coast Guard sets as a kid--and ranked in the same order. Nowadays, looking back, I see this one with a bit of nostalgia, but at the time, I thought this was... well... not good.

The engine hood piece here always makes me think of the 1996 Race jetski design (such as in 6334). Given that this set is NOT built, maybe I'll make a Coastguard variant.

I almost completely forgot to comment here. The time of release is officially too late for me to regularly comment, and certainly not one of the first comments. I miss when it was 9pm EST.
