Man, Indy better be for moving his keister if he wants to live past the next five seconds... never mind firing his rocket launcher there (yup that’s what it is) MOVE

Hot Take: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not a bad movie up until the point that it actually is about aliens. Kind of takes away from the Indiana Jones universe because things are supposed to be more mystical and aliens are too tactile, even ones that give you infinite knowledge that turns you into General Grievous being shot by Obi-Wan. Other than that, it's a pretty fun and enjoyable movie.

To elaborate further, I have a theory that the aliens come from the Star Wars Galaxy. The World Between Worlds exists, the aliens traveled through time and space, colonized a world, made a flying saucer, and found their way to Earth. John Hurt even says that they are leaving to go back to the space between spaces. It also explains why there are so many easter eggs found in Indiana Jones that reference Star Wars and all the Indiana Jones references found in Clone Wars and Rebels. I mean come on, one of the skulls is in a Trandoshan trophy room, and the Holy Grail is in Thrawn's personal collection of art and artifacts. The earth opening up at the end of Last Crusade, the Grail falls down it into a portal and an ancient sect of Jedi found it in the World Between Worlds. Same goes for Indy's hat, it ends up in Pablo's Pawn Shop after being found by someone that had access to the World Between Worlds, and he can't possibly just have one hat. Staff of Ra, too, it's lost at some point, goes way back in time to a Galaxy Far Far Away and a Senator uses it as a sign of higher status, or it could go the other way around and it's actually from the Star Wars Galaxy because the last we saw it, it was on Florrum and you know Hondo kept it for treasure and lost it, or he sold it and eventually made it's way to Earth. Club Obi-Wan? Yeah man, someone found access to the World Between Worlds and decided to make a club in China. The Twi'leks at some point saw the Ark of the Covenant and decided to make their own version of it. There could be portals on Earth that ancient religions would perceive as access points to the Spirit Realm aka The World Between Worlds, and now we've got ourselves a crossover. Plus, where did humans come from? Time means nothing, they could be from Earth and went super back in time to the Star Wars Galaxy or vice versa. It all makes sense, just trust me on this.

My brother's been begging me to rebulid this lately. I can get why, zooming it around to chop up the trees was ridiculously fun

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Loved this set as a kid, especially how the trees were so easy to chop. I agree with @MCLegoboy, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull isn’t all bad but the aliens do it for me too. Still a fun adventure movie with a good cast and lots of memorable moments, and I can even get behind the idea of ancient aliens, but aliens are breaking the rules of the Indy universe set by the previous movies IMO. I’m not religious in the slightest, but what gets me is they spent the first movies essentially proving that the Christian God does indeed exist and by my understanding of the religion aliens do not exist within the bounds of the bible.

Why the heck does Indy have a Transformers-esque gun? lol

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a terrible movie. Thank god it doesn't exist.

Cool set though :D

By in United States,

Looking at this set, it seemed like the kind where the blades would spin when the vehicle was pushed forward, but couldn't figure out where all the gears and rods and such would go, so I peeked at the 3D model on the page.

Turns out that the small wheels underneath the blades just spin them while they roll.

Well, if it's stupid, but it works: it ain't stupid.

Snagged this in a parts lot last year, have yet to build it. $40 seems much lower than I remember, but probably seemed like more when I was a kid in 2008.

@Brikkyy13:
Temple of Doom features a non-Judaic religion that is presented as being just as legitimate as Judaism in Raiders, Christianity in Last Crusade, and Dracula in the Young Indy series. It's kind of hard to hold up a single truth and judge everything that follows by it when the franchise has clearly favored the existence of multiple truths.

Besides, the first three films were set in a time when adventure films were in their heyday, so they are of that genre. Indy 4 took place in the 50's, during the height of "flying saucer" pulp Sci-Fi, so...space aliens.

Gravatar

Crystal Skull exists. It isn’t great but it exists. Probably the best description of it tbh. It’s not good or bad. It simply is.

Nice set

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this has been asked before, but I wonder if the new upcoming Indiana Jones movie will get any Lego sets? I personally kinda doubt it.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Had this set back in the day and I think it was the last Indiana Jones set I got (my mum surprised me with it for Christmas 2010). The play feature was terrific and I put the Russian soldiers in a number of WWII MOCs as a teen.

By the way, I’ve seen a general dislike for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in the comments. Personally, I quite like it. Some elements were quite stupid, but I think it’s enjoyable for most part.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was 12 when Crystal Skull came out, so I was the perfect age to appreciate it. As an adult, I can admit upon rewatches that it is flawed, but as a kid, I loved it. I'm happy for the memories and the adventures it inspired with my action figures and lego models

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this set just because of how hilariously overkill it is. A tank with two rotary saws and a big exhaust pipe right in the center, the oversized ants, and the RPG & machine pistols.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

So so set from a so so movie. Yes, I said it...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Having been in the target age range for Adventurers when it came out, I was excited when the Indiana Jones license was announced on Lego fan sites. I expected it to be like Adventurers but better, since Adventurers was obviously an unlicensed homage to Indiana Jones. I'm sure many Lego fans did find the Indy line better than Adventurers, but I thought the Indy line's heavy emphasis on vehicles and gunplay very disappointing compared to all the wonderful location sets in Adventurers and its less explicit conflict. Whereas the Indiana Jones movies are a fight a minute, I had imagined the level of conflict in Adventurers more like that in the Tintin comics: still full of gunplay and fistfights, but very tidy and bloodless.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I like the ants.
Didn’t lego make a set of Indy hiding in a fridge?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The ants in these sets were unironically incredible pieces. These were dual-molded, dark red in the middle and trans-brown for most of the extremities. Almost made them look like they had chitinous shells. They recolored them in dark blue for that one Ant-Man set, but we haven't seen 'em since. I hope they haven't gone away completely like so many other great animal molds.

Best case scenario, we get one single big D2C set, like with the Silent Marry from PotC 5, and that would be it. I highly doubt we'll get a full line of sets.

With that said, the fifth Indiana Jones movie has been in production hell since 2016, so I am not even certain when, or even if that will even come out at all.

I don’t think so, but it did appear in the second video game.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Actually quite a fun set. Along with some of the other Indy sets featuring bad guy vehicles I’ve added them to my collection of Adventurers sets, bulked up Sam Sinister’s forces a bit so it’s more than just him and a couple of his mates trying to be a credible threat

Well Raiders of the Lost Ark was Judaism, technically the same god, but it in no way proved Christianity to be true.

Temple of Doom proved what I believe is a fictional religion to be true.

Last Crusade is the only movie to take on Christianity.

However, none of these movies prove the existence of any god. It is quite possible that the stories of the ark, stones, and holy grail were all made up in the same vein of Greek myths to explain strange occurrences that we now know may assume we’re created by aliens. After all, Judaism actually goes back 5000+ years, long before the days of Greek myths. It is quite possible that around the year 50 a magical cup was discovered, and to explain it those who discovered it were either Jewish or had a knowledge of Judaism and used that knowledge to write a story that can explain a magical cup. As for the stones, well you get the idea.

Now I’m not saying that aliens were behind these magical objects, perhaps in the new movie we will actually learn these magical objects were created by Sauron in the fires of Mordor, and the aliens were actually Kaminoans looking for someone to clone.

By in United States,

I only own a handful of Indiana Jones sets, but this is one of them. What really set the theme apart was how many play features they packed into each set, and this one with the spinning blades is no exception.

I hope that the theme gets revived with the new movie coming out as it will arguably be introducing the franchise to a whole new generation, maybe even my kids.

There was a time when I thought the AIs at the end of, um, 'AI: Artificial Intelligence' were, or were based on, Kaminoans (or vice versa) because of (a) their appearance, (b) the cloning ability, and (c) the Lucas/Spielberg friendship. (I emphasise: there *was* a time . . .)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like a good set. I don't have Indiana Jones Lego.

I think the main problem with Lego Indiana Jones compared to Lego Adventurers is that the Indy sets are obviously limited to what we see in the movies and couldn't really expand the series beyond that. When most locations seen in the movies are also underground, the larger Lego sets just look incomplete in my opinion as they try too hard to replicate specific scenes. That said the Indiana Jones vehicles are amazing. Whereas the Lego Adventurers set designers can do whatever they like, and Lego released a number of good looking temple sets with lots of playability, as well as vehicles and characters.

And just to add, I like all four Indiana Jones movies almost equally and had zero issues with aliens. The flying saucer take off and the nuking the fringe scene are among my favourite Indiana Jones moments.

One of my All-Time-High sets. Because the Know-How still impress me: Such a simple pysical trick spinn the saws in the right directions; well thought and working. Far over trapdoors, collapsing bricks, or flickfires.
And I like the soviets-in-the-jungle mix. The movie is full of humor.

Confirmed, nope. But i really hope to get a new wave of sets. Shouldn't that be the most normal thing in the world? Doesn't it tie in with the Star Wars license or something? If they can make tons of Star Wars stuff, they should at least do some new Indiana Jones sets. (imo)

I also hope - and suppose - the 5th movie will take place somewhere near the end of the 60's, early 70's, which is a great era to bring back in a movie. Like with the rock & roll, motorcycle/james dean style in the 'Crystal skull' in 2008. Must have been 1956-1957 or something. We're 13 years later now, so ... :)

Jungle Cutter vs rocket launcher. I actually think Indy has a chance.

I won this set in a building contest at legoland when I was a kid, 13 years ago. I think the prize for the contest was this one and also the tent one from the same wave. So this set is very nostalgic for me.

By in United States,

This beastly machine was fun to play with for my sons. I wish I had more Indy Lego sets. Really hoping we get more for the next movie.

Lucasfilm announced a couple of weeks ago on their Instagram post that they've signed more actors and John Williams will score the music.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would love it if LEGO went for the jugular on this theme today the way they are doing with Harry Potter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@thefirst:
I like Temple of Doom, but without a second thought I rank it fourth out of the film series, and I’d probably take about half of the Young Indy show over it.

@blogzilly:
Since the only two things I know I’m missing are the NYTF invite with Han and Indy minifigs, and the SDCC set that combined the Brickmaster Jeep with a new terrain base, I wouldn’t actually mind if they went PotC on this theme and left the previous four movies as is.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@MCLegoboy:
There was actually a short comic in the "Star Wars Tales" anthology series that has Indy discovering the wreck of the Millennium Falcon, with Han's body aboard. He even remarks that the place feels strangely familiar. Non-canon, of course, but still a fun story. Also, Chewie becomes Bigfoot.

Yes, the 5th film is confirmed, with release expected in July 2022. It is going to be directed by James Mangold (who directed Logan), and Steven Spielberg will be one of the producers this time. John Williams is back to score the soundtrack, and so far the cast includes Harrison Ford, Thomas Kretschmann, Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

this was one of my brother's first lego sets ever, and therefore one of my first exposures to legos. So much nostalgia.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ok, I’ll be the naysayer.

IMHO, this was my least favorite set from the subtheme and this was simply an awful, awful, awful film let alone a terrible Indiana Jones entry.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember this as the first set that had a quantity of dark green leaves at a reasonable price. This was a ground-breaking development back in the day; finally getting foliage in a more realistic color opened up tremendous vegetative possibilities, and I went on to use thousands of this part in my MOCs.

But I'm still waiting for Plant Leaves 4 x 3 to show up in Dark Green!

@Brikkyy13
The Bible never mentions aliens one way or another, but it is replete with extra-terrestrial beings—cherubim, seraphim, the creatures of Ezekiel and Revelation, etc. Some Christians maintain that conventional aliens are incompatible with the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice; others see no such conflict, assuming he would deal with their spiritual states individually. C.S. Lewis wrote two different series of novels exploring how Jesus would be expressed to aliens—if one believes in an infinitely creative God, it's no logical stretch to accept the possibility he exercises infinite creativity. Indiana Jones, meanwhile, just used religion as a plot device; literally God-in-a-box. Don't be too surprised the series didn't trouble itself much with philosophical implications.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@AllenSmith:
What do you mean by “more realistic color”? Plants have leaves in an astonishing range of shades of green, and I doubt there is any plant produced in a shade of green that does not exist in nature. In fact, some plants product leaves that are never green. Japan has a lot of plants that produce dark red leaves, for which the dark-red color is too bright.

I want an Indy minifig, some easter eggs (Holy Grail, Crystal Skull), Russian and German soldier minifigs, and of course some minifig machine guns, rifles, pistols, and rocket launchers. Looking at Indiana Jones sets, there are a lot of things I would love to use in stop motion but can't get as easily nowadays.
