That's 2 Bonkles in a row now. Does anyone know what the longest one theme streak on RSotD was?

Can you blame him? Japanese candy is delicious!

Town x4 twice (both in 2018)

Friends might have a chance to get there in a few years.

By in United States,

This is the Kabaya Sweets version of Nuhvok Va, a Japanese candy company tie-in that perhaps in Japan is as synonymous with the 2000s as BIONICLE is elsewhere (seriously, is Kabaya still a candy powerhouse, cross-promoting with toy brands?). For the rest of us, Nuhvok Va came in the standard small box that the Turaga came in the year before.

I don't own a Nuhvok Va. A battle between curiosity regarding its build and its expected silliness that resulted was waged in my mind. You see, the box art shows a Technic ball holding the "head", or hand shield, in place. This, however, meant the neck was locked down by the axle hole on the unseen opposite end. As a result, only the head shield would spin around ridiculously. For comparison, the other Bohrok Va got it right with the Technic ball seated on the neck axle to give full head articulation. But 13 year-old me was not too proud to think maybe I was missing something. In the end, my doubts and the passage of time won out, and I never got a Nuhvok Va.

Years later, I saw instruction scans of this set and realized the box art was wrong. In the instructions, the Nuhvok Va ball piece is placed on the neck as hoped for. At this point in time, though, the extremely minor role of the Nuhvok Va in the larger BIONICLE mythos puts my collecting of BIONICLE in perspective, and it is unlikely I will ever attempt to get it or any of the other Bohrok Va I am missing unless an insane opportunity collided with me.

If you are expecting a story dump from me regarding the Nuhvok Va, I'm just simply not going to bother this time, as aside from an appearance in the background of some comics or flash videos, no Nuhvok Va seems to do anything of significance, and if you want to know more about the Bohrok Va in general, comments I wrote on previous Bohrok Va in the RSotD articles should suffice. You can go back and look for them. You've got time!

The Bohrok were a series of bug like drones buried beneath the island of Mata Nui with the goal of "clean it all, it must be clean." During the 2002 and this part of the story exactly what that meant was unknown and they were treated like villains, but in 2008 it was reveled they were cleaning away the island of Mata Nui because the god Mata Nui was beneath it and needed to be free once awakened by the Toa.

Nuhvok were the Earth Bohrok, who exceled at tunneling and causing structures to collapse. Nuhvok Va are smaller side units who provide the Nuhvok with new Krana. Krana are the "brains" of Bohrok and are needed for them to operate, and can provide the host Bohrok with new powers, making the Va double as both medics and power swappers.

Also, Nuhvok had the best Bohrok color scheme imo.

Hi, i own Nuhvok Va as Lego Set 8555, normal standard issue and an un-opened box of Lego Set 1432, which was quite expensive to get. However there is still the candy in it and those boxes were a bit more metallic shiny than their standard counter part. Never open it and never will.

By the way the Bionicle Kabaya listing on Brickset is not completely accurate and seems to be incomplete listed as i got them all. There are usually from their Standard counter part are 4 of each sets, but the Kabaya did only 3 of them and left out one for those Turaga, Bohrok Va and Matoran.

Bionicle, The Anime! (?) :P

Nuhvok Va is the only Va I have yet to get. I bought the other 5 this year second hand, never had them as a kid but always wanted them.

This is how we bridge the divide between generations, the Classic Space Bionicle mash up MOC series!

To be serious, I think BZPower had a MOC theme once of Bionicle MOCs based on Classic Space's Ice Planet. I can't remember if that was for 2019 or for their cancelled 2020 convention circuit though.

I’ve got about 100 of this guy (the regular version, not the one that probably comes with gum that has about two seconds of flavor). Can anyone here beat that?

Sometime after the Bohrok Va came out, a discount toy store that was called either Kay*Bee (if it was in a mall), or KayBee Toys (if it was outside), got in trouble for price-fixing. They would regularly raise prices on new stuff above MSRP and then mark them with “reduced” prices that were just MSRP. This made them look cheaper when everyone else was selling at the same price. Then they started preprinting the price tags with the red line and a “handwritten” price that was heavily pixelated. Now, you can mark stuff down from MSRP, and that’s your business. You can sell it for more than MSRP (like TRU), and while AFOLs may curse your name, they can’t stop you. You can even sell it above MSRP and discount it, but what you can’t do is mark it above MSRP and immediately reduce the price before anyone has a chance to buy it at full price. So they got caught, lost a lawsuit, and were forced to run an unannounced one-day sale. These guys got marked 3/$5, and I cleaned the store out. About 100 were this guy, but I also got a handful on other flavors. Each one comes with three black friction axle-pins, which now cost about twice as much as the set they came in.

my apologies, just checked the Sets, wrong numbers counter parts are 6 Set boxes and Kabaya only 4 Set boxes for Turaga and Bohrok Va, but only 3 Set boxes for Matoran 2003. Thanks

I still got my Bionicle collection from 2001 - 2010 and enjoy looking at them. This was a great time, when i tried to come back from my dark ages back into Lego. However when Lego discontinued them, i moved on to Lego Minifigurine collection and never got those new Bionicle Sets.

Fun fact, the standard version (8555) was Random Set of the Day on 25 June 2018.

Oh gosh the first comment on the 2018 one... was myself pointing out I'd yet to get any Bohrok Va but maybe someday would get them on Bricklink... now my comment earlier here was me saying this is the only Va I haven't chased down on Bricklink... starting to think RsOTD is dangerous to my wallet!

By in United Kingdom,

Nuhvok Va mostly stands out to me as one half of an inseparable comedy duo with Lhikan (8811), in the old BZPower comedy "My Life with the Bionicles" by Dominus Temporis.

In canon storyline, Nuhvok Va didn't even get the five seconds of screentime that some of its fellow Va did; the Nuhvok (8561) themselves, at the time, only showed up in the demolishing of Le-Wahi, the jungle region, after the Lehvak had already enslaved all the inhabitants with Krana (the face-hugging mind control 'brains' of the Bohrok swarms), and were seen only in the online animation where Kongu (1392) and Tamaru led them into a trap. I don't believe any of the Va showed up then, and the Nuhvok never got any focus in the comics at all.

Whereas in the comedy I mentioned, while thoroughly unofficial, Nuhvok Va was one of the core group of main characters. And since I followed that comedy for many years, and found it highly entertaining, is it any wonder that association stands out much more highly in my mind than anything canon for this guy?

I picked up Nuhvok Va myself - the non-Kabaya version 8555, that is - during my completionist phase in 2006/2007: I was discovering the joys of eBay at the time, and NATURALLY one of my primary uses of that site was to chase down the Bionicle sets that I'd missed in previous years. The Bohrok Va were low priority for me compared to, for example, the Turaga, Bohrok, Visorak and Rahi, but I still rounded up all but one of them eventually; I think Nuhvok Va may have been one of the very last sets, except for 8539 Manas, that I picked up that way.

He was certainly one of the 'cutest' of the Bohrok Va, due mostly to his wildly-oversized hands and short statue giving him a kind of cartoony appearance; but I think Gahlok Va (8550) was my favourite due to the different piece it used to attach the hips, making it stand out as slightly taller than its fellows.

...Regrettably, the comedy I mentioned is no longer on the internet, it was lost along with BZPower's old forums. But it forever influenced my perception of this set, if nothing else!

I am a fan of both Classic Era space, and Bionicle, so it is inevitable that I would mix the two. I've got quite the Blacktron Bionicle series going, you can check them out here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/31780766 @N06/albums/72157713502351682
