The Buccaneers May Be Making A Huge Mistake Letting Liam Coen Walk In Favor Of Todd Bowles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense has been one of the most efficient units in football the last few years. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen and quarterback Baker Mayfield have made the quite the team as the Bucs transitioned out of the Tom Brady era.

But, the head coach, Todd Bowles, while having great defensive chops, has routinely fallen short as an in-game coach. With Liam Coen possibly heading to Jacksonville, they could be making a huge mistake not firing Todd Bowles to promote Liam Coen.

Coen has been highly-thought-of in coaching circles for quite some time now. The 39-year-old Sean McVay disciple does especially great work with quarterbacks. If you’re a Jaguars fan, assuming this deal goes through, that should be music to your ears. He can do great work with Trevor Lawrence.

But, if you’re a Buccaneers fan, you’ve got be worried that the team is backing the wrong horse here. Bowles is a solid defensive mind, and should be employed as one of the league’s best defensive coordinators. But, he’s often fell short as a head coach, and now they’re going to lose Liam Coen.

To me, risking losing Liam Coen, who should be the team’s head coach at some point, because you want to give Bowles another year. I’m not saying that Bowles necessarily deserves to get fired. But, if it comes down to having Bowles or Coen, I’d pick Coen.

That doesn’t seem to be the pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, however. They may come to regret that choice in the future.
