Uncanny Valley: A Memoir
Anna Wiener
Favourite This is an incredibly well written memoir of Wiener's time in San Francisco, working for a couple of Silicon Valley startups and scaleups (including Github). The book is both highly entertaining and utterly despairing in its description of the culture at these companies. Wiener manages to strike a nerve when she writes about the relentless solutionism, the lack of diversity and social skills, and the gentrification problems. Required reading if you want to understand why our technological ecosystem is so shitty and doesn't care about public values.
