'Needy' in the Bible

“Do not oppress a hired hand who is poor and needy, whether one of your brothers or one of the foreigners residing within a town in your land.

He raises the poor from the dustand lifts the needy from the garbage pile.He seats them with noblemenand gives them a throne of honor.For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;He has set the world on them.

He saves the needy from their sharp wordsand from the clutches of the powerful.

They push the needy off the road;the poor of the land are forced into hiding.

The murderer rises at dawnto kill the poor and needy,and by night he becomes a thief.

I was a father to the needy,and I examined the case of the stranger.

Have I not wept for those who have fallen on hard times?Has my soul not grieved for the needy?

if I have seen anyone dying for lack of clothingor a needy person without a cloak,

My very bones will say,“Lord, who is like You,rescuing the poor from one too strong for him,the poor or the needy from one who robs him?”

The wicked have drawn the sword and strung the bowto bring down the afflicted and needyand to slaughter those whose way is upright.

A Davidic prayer.Listen, Lord, and answer me,for I am poor and needy.

The Lord says:I will not relent from punishing Israelfor three crimes, even four,because they sell a righteous person for silverand a needy person for a pair of sandals.

Listen to this message, you cows of Bashanwho are on the hill of Samaria,women who oppress the poorand crush the needy,who say to their husbands,“Bring us something to drink.”

Hear this, you who trample on the needyand do away with the poor of the land,

We can buy the poor with silverand the needy for a pair of sandalsand even sell the chaff!”

For there was not a needy person among them, because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,
