Beth Boniface

Beth Boniface is a Republican and the Part III judge for the 3rd Circuit Court in Tennessee. The court presides over Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, and Hawkins counties.
Boniface was appointed to the court by Gov. Bill Haslam (R) on April 14, 2015, to fill the vacancy created by the death of former Judge Mike Faulk. Boniface won the partial term unopposed on August 4, 2016. She was elected to a six-year term. The seat will be up for a full eight-year term at the next general judicial election in 2022.[1]
Education
Boniface received her undergraduate degree from Mary Washington University in 1991 and her J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1994.[1]
Career
Boniface served as a magistrate for the Hamblen County Juvenile Court from 2010 to 2014.[1] She also previously worked as an attorney in private practice in Morristown, Tennessee, specializing in family law and custody cases. From 2005 to 2008, Boniface was a partner at the law firm of Shelton and Boniface, in Morristown. From 2004 to 2005, she practiced in Knoxville, Tennessee, specializing in new business creation and special needs planning for the disabled.[1]

Primary election
Primary elections for partisan judicial seats in Tennessee were held on March 1, 2016. The top vote recipient in each party's primary advanced to the general election on August 4, 2016. No Democrats filed for any of the local judicial seats up for election in 2016, meaning only Republican primaries were necessary. Independent candidates did not face primary elections. Incumbent Beth Boniface ran unopposed in the Republican primary for the unexpired term in Part III of the Tennessee 3rd Circuit Court.

Selection method
Judges of the circuit court are elected in partisan elections. Each county may opt to hold nonpartisan elections instead. Judges serve eight-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[4][5]
The presiding judge of each court is elected to a one-year term by peer vote.[6]
Qualifications
To serve on the court, a judge must be:[4]
- authorized to practice law in state;
- a district resident for at least one year;
- a state resident five years; and
- at least 30 years old.
