Carol Kim (California)
Carol Kim was a 2014 nonpartisan candidate for District 6 of the San Diego, California City Council.
Biography
Kim obtained a B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles and an M.A. in education from National University. Her professional experience includes working as an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles, as the Prevention-projects Manager at the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York, and as a Research Associate at WestEd, an education nonprofit.[1]
Issues
Police salaries
In September 2014, Kim proposed raising San Diego police salaries by 20% over a span of four years. According to U-T San Diego, Kim argued that this measure would increase police force retention and recruitment.[2]
Elections
2014
The city of San Diego, California held elections for city council on November 4, 2014 A primary election was held on June 3, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 6, 2014.
In District 6, Chris Cate and Carol Kim advanced past Jane L. Glasson, De Le and Mitz Lee in the primary election. Cate defeated Kim in the general election on November 4, 2014.[3][4][5]

I will work across party lines, coordinating the City and school systems to reduce class sizes, cut overhead so money goes directly to classrooms, and invest in after-school programs and career technical education."
Urban infrastructure
- Excerpt: "I will make government more efficient and use those savings to fund improvements in police, fire, and medical response times. [...] Let's get our streets in good repair, our infrastructure updated, and our neighborhood services like libraries, parks, and recreational programs strengthened and ready to support our expanding needs. I will ensure that our kids - yours and mine - have safe and healthy neighborhoods in which to live, play, and go to school."
San Diego economy
- Excerpt: "Small businesses are the engine of growth for our communities; two out of three jobs in the U.S. are generated by small businesses, and they are the reason that communities flourish. I will work hard to support the start-up and growth of small businesses in our district.
