Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Detert's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs: I'll vote to bring jobs and manufacturing back from overseas, mandate E-Verify, and strengthen laws against businesses that hire illegal workers. We need to make it easier for businesses to operate in this country and eliminate bad trade deals like the TPP. We must strengthen the middle class, the backbone of this country.
  • Immigration: We are a nation of Americans. We have laws, borders, and a common, yet diverse culture. Immigration can be a great thing, however, mass migration hurts every American, especially the poor and minorities.
  • Water: California has run out of abundant water. 40 million people were never meant to live in a state as dry as ours. We need additional water storage infrastructure, new storage and irrigation technology, and fewer incentives for Agriculture to use water it doesn't need.
  • Education: I value education highly. While I encourage everyone to become better educated, not everyone should go to college. A solution that requires no student debt is to fix our public school system so that a high school education actually means something.
  • War on Drugs: We need to end the War on Drugs. We need to stop treating drug addicts like they are violent criminals. Instead, we should treat drug abuse as a health issue and rehabilitate addicts.
