Maybe the video editing… 😉 This video I’m making a bowl by stretching a tall cylinder. This isn’t my normal making process. It’s highly dramatized, but it is still accurate. Bowls lose strength as they get wider and they are more likely to flop. That’s why it’s beneficial to wait until the last second to open it up. Very satisfying!"
Jackie Masters Ceramic Artist on Instagram: "A tricky trim! Cutting off the lid section is always exciting—sometimes it even hisses, or ‘pops’ as trapped air escapes! This is the lidded pot, thrown in one piece, from my previous throwing post and now it is at a perfect leather-hard stage and ready for trimming. Using a pin tool, I carefully cut away the lid section. Then, I invert the lid into the base, level it up, and start trimming away any excess clay. The goal is to trim enough so that the lid flange fits perfectly into the bottom bowl section. This involves trimming both the lid and the rim area of the base. After trimming the lid, I trim the base of the pot. Once the base is finished, I flip it back right-side up and make sure the lid fits comfortably with enough space for a co
