Although this work is a collection of mixed contents in which historical and mythical motifs are gathered together, it has been considered as a historical source through the past centuries. Actually, Ferdowsi has narrated ancient kingships and their concepts of legitimacy through stories that have imaginative configurations. This book has constituted different aspects of Iranian culture through centuries, such as art, politics, and social influences as well as effects on individual minds. In this paper, by using Ricoeurˊs theory of narrative identity, we aim to indicate how this imaginative history has constituted a collective identity in this culture. Paul Ricoeur characterizes identity concerning the narrative to show that self-knowledge is a dynamic process. In this theory, by encountering the world of the text, our world can be reformed and refigured, hence we may recognize ourselves differently. This narrative identity, as a poetic and indirect way to self-understanding, can be individual or collective. In other words, one of the main goals of his theory is that how symbolic language, especially narrative, constitutes an aspect of human self-understanding and affects his actions. As such, what we emphasize in this paper is this relation and its corollary for an understanding of the self as the social groups like historical nations. Here, we focus on Shahnameh as a book of politics and try to interpret one of its basic political terms "Dâd" (justice). This is one of the most pivotal terms which configure the emplotment of the text. In general, it has been attributed to the shah, the king. However, in this narrative, we can see that how "dâd" encompasses all over the kingdom institution and related the shah, the divine, people, and nature together as a coherent whole in which each element has been influenced by another according to the just. By elaborating the narrative, we can see that how this term transforms into characters, motifs, themes, and stories from which we achieve an image that has constructed the main part of Iranian collective identity in history. In this paper, by analyzing the stories, we want to show that how Ferdowsi's fictive articulation of "dâd" has formed a collective conception that through centuries figured the relation of people and systems of power.

However, literary texts do lose their supposed absolute and final meanings when approached from a poststructuralist perspective. Consequently, it is possible to have multiple readings of a text from different perspectives. Drawing on Derridean deconstruction of binary oppositions, this paper studies a miniature painting by Sultan Mohammad Naqqash based on Hafez’s poetry. Hafez’s divan is always open to various interpretations between spiritual and worldly approaches. Contrary to the classical interpretations in which a definitive meaning is sought after,“Heavenly and Earthly Inebriation” painting by Sultan Mohammad deconstructs this opposition and presents a new reading of the poem. Based on an analytic-historical method, we argue that this painting creates a new hermeneutic world by geometric composition, colors, and characterization. The painting, we conclude, maintains the poetic ambiguity of Hafez’s poetry. Accordingly, we can say that there is no final meaning in this painting because the spectators simultaneously experience both poles of this opposition and, as a result, for them there is no absolute interpretation.

Imagination is most traditionally assumed as something that is a contradiction of reality. Accord... more Imagination is most traditionally assumed as something that is a contradiction of reality. Accordingly, it is considered as a faculty that is merely able to evoke our emotions and feelings and implies unreal things that do not contribute to cognition. This is one of the most important themes of Paul Ricoeurˊs theory. By analyzing and criticizing other theories, he tries to go over this contradiction and emphasizes the functional aspect of imagination and its contribution to reality. By exploring through various texts of Ricoeur, in order to achieve an organized framework, this article seeks to show how imagination can play a main role in the construction of reality. Therefore, by taking up Ricoeurˊs claims, first of all, we explain his verbal turn which has two functions and also significant consequences. These functions include schematizing synthesis and projecting new meanings, which elaborated on three levels. In this way, it can be seen how a poetic schema creates a picture by inventing a new meaning, which indirectly refers to reality and hence defamiliarizes it. Finally, we try to point out the most key consequences of this new understanding.

But this presence gives rise to a conflict through which, one the one hand, this narrative aspect has been discussed in aesthetics and as such affects the audience's reading and lead him to a better understanding of historical events; On the other hand, many theorists hold that this imaginative aspect is an ornamental, and hence additional, insertion and try to eliminate it from historical content. But what is important here is that neither of them maintains a cognitive role for imagination. Paul Ricoeur emphasizes the function of imagination, however, and seeks to demonstrate that how the constitution of imagination works here. He argues that history can reconstitute only by imagination and what imagination adds to history not only does not reduce history to literature but also improves it as a discourse and gives it more functional aspects. By exploring in Ricoeurˊs different texts, this paper aims to find a meaningful relation between history and imagination to show that how imagination modifies the reference of a historical narrative to the past reality through its creative activity. In this way, imagination provides a road through which our image of history is reconstructed.
