Chapter 1: The Fortune-teller

Chapter Text

Tell it to Your Heart

Jimin was amazed by all the lights and colours. He could hear the joyful music in the background mixing with the bubbling sounds of people laughing and having fun in the different games and stands at the local fair that took place once more in the city. All kinds of tempting smells coming from the many food trucks set along the big venue filled his nostrils making him feel hungry.

Jimin was excited. He had just finished college and had graduated with the best marks. He had the whole summer ahead just for him. That night, he was with his best friend, Hoseok, enjoying a deserved night of games, food and music. The weather was perfect, there was a full moon and the stars were shining brightly. Jimin was happy.

Hyung! Look! A fortune-teller! Let’s go inside, please. Come with me, I wanna know what my future is gonna look like”- Jimin exclaimed pointing at the colourful tent with a banner that showed two hands engulfing a purple crystal ball.

“Jiminie, are you going to tell me that you believe in these things? Come on! They just tell you the most random things, anything that could suit anyone, duh! I really wanna go grab something to eat, I’m starving”- Hoseok said nonchalantly.

“Hobi hyung, please!” - Jimin said while whining and pouting. He knew no one could resist his pouts.

“Ok, ok, ok. We will, but AFTER eating something, I beg you. I’ve been busy all day and couldn’t take a bite of anything, let’s go. Also, our friends must be getting here any time soon, hurry up!” - and with that promise they walked towards the food trucks; Jimin with a satisfied smile on his face and Hobi moving to the rhythm of the music.

Once they reached the food truck area, they were met by the group of three. “Namjoonie, so glad you could make it to the city for the holidays!” - greeted Hoseok. “Jin hyung, Yoongi hyung, we saw each other three days ago, but nice to see you all the same.”

“Hobah, Jiminah! Great to see you guys! I missed Seoul, but I was so busy with my project that I barely had time to think about it. Finally, I’m home. Congrats on your graduation, Jiminah! I heard you did it with honours!”- said Namjoon while hugging both of his friends.

“Thanks, hyung. Welcome back. Looking forward to spending a nice summer with all of you guys”- answered Jimin while greeting his older friends, too.

After all the greetings and hugs, they all sat on a table with their burgers and cold beers, laughing and chatting about everything and nothing at the same time. The mood was light and they’d always enjoyed spending time with each other.

“Hyung, remember your promise, ok?” - Jimin reminded Hobi while raising an eyebrow.

“Yes, yes, Jiminie, relax”- Hoseok mumbled while eating his burger.

“What promise?” - asked Yoongi intrigued while drinking his beer.

“Jiminie wants to go to the fortune-teller. He wants to know about his future or who is going to be the love of his life or whatever”- declared his friend boldly, but yet, not with the intention of making Jimin blush. Which he did.

“Hyung, that's not true! Well… a little bit”- confessed Jimin while smiling shyly.

“Jiminah, do you really believe in those things? Come on. You just graduated with honours! I thought highly of you!” - said Jin while faking a big laugh- “Nah, I'm just kidding, you can do as you please and try to find whatever you want, really.”

“Thanks, Hyung, I don't think I’m going to find out who will be the love of my life but I’m just curious about these kinds of things. Now, let's go” - Jimin hurried the rest of them.

While Jimin and Hobi walked back towards the tent they had previously seen, the rest of the group excused themselves and went to see the other stands. “We’ll gather at the rollercoaster after you finish guys, wait you there”- said Namjoon and walked away with Yoongi while Jin said he would catch up in a moment. He wanted to get an ice cream first.

Ok. See you there. Hobi hyung, wait! I need to go to the bathroom. You know, too much beer…”- alerted Jimin giggling.

Minutes later, Jimin was paying the 5000 won at the entrance of the tent full of excitement. “Hyung, come with me, please, I need you to be a witness of whatever this woman has to say to me”.

Inside, the place had a gipsy style, full of carpets and veils, some candles and incense. There was a table, two chairs, and in front of them a woman with black curly hair and a ridiculous purple and blue make up. She had a red scarf on her head, long pointy nails and golden chains all over her body.

“Good evening, handsome young boy. I assume you want to know what your future looks like... Jimin”- said the woman dramatically while emphasizing the name and looking straight at him.

Jimin and Hobi opened their eyes really big. “Surprising”, they thought. How did the woman know Jimin’s name? They had just stepped inside.

“Yes, what can you tell me about it ... Lady Felicia?” - responded Jimin after remembering the name he saw on the banner at the entrance. He was in shock with that first approach. Could the fortune-teller really see the future? Jimin was experiencing a combination of disbelief and curiosity at this point, but he tried to play it cool.

Hoseok was as stunned as him. He looked at his friend suppressing an excited smile, he was curious too now.

“Well, your future looks bright” -declared the woman in a solemn tone while rubbing the purple crystal ball and pretending to look intently at it. “And I see love. A big love.”

Jimin and Hobi exchanged glances and bit their lips. The situation was kind of funny and childish now that Jimin was thinking about it. He remembered what his friend had previously said about these people saying average things that could fit anyone.

“That’s it?”- Jimin asked. He was waiting for more substantial information.

“Isn’t it enough for you to learn that you will have a bright future and a big love?”- questioned Felicia while raising an eyebrow.

“Yes, yes. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that! It’s more than enough. Well, it is nice to know all that. Thank you, Lady Felicia”- said Jimin while standing up from his chair and bowing to the woman.

“WAIT! Don’t go just yet, little man! I see a name…”- interrupted the woman creating suspense.

“A name?”- Jimin asked while sitting down again, curiosity suddenly piqued in.

Yes, a name. A love, a big love. And a name: Jeon Jungkook. Now, you may leave”- the woman cut off, pointing towards the exit.

They exited the tent in silence. Jimin breathed. Fresh air fanning across his face. He was still astonished with the information. Could this be true? The love of his life had a name now.

He got a name.

Jeon Jungkook.
