Chapter 1: That's so true

Chapter Text

November 3 1979

Sirius's birthday bash was the biggest yet. He was finally 20 and he was finally an adult. Sirius was thriving, he was engaged and ready to be married. James and Lily were going to get married in a few weeks and everything was going according to plan.

The war on the other hand was stronger than ever. Marlene McKinnon had died a week ago. Lily was a mess that week. Her best friend was gone and she wasn't able to help. She fought harder than ever. Dorcas on the other hand went against everything, she lost her mind and died yesterday. Sirius didn't know about Dorcas yet. Or Regulus.

He was reported missing this morning. James had done his best to hide the mysterious disappearance  of Sirius's little brother. "Here," Sirius handed drinks to each of his friends. He wanted to distract everyone from the war and that was exactly what he was doing. Drinks, loud music, potions that bring euphoria. No one in the house was thinking about the war.

December 1979

My dearest cousin had a baby, he slammed the daily prophet on the table. "Bellatrix Lestrange had a baby boy, heir of Black," James read and turned to Lily.

James took a second before answering, "Ugh, he's going to be in our kid's year," James frowned.

"I heard it's not even her kid," Mary shrugged.

"How's the adoption going?" Lily asked changing the subject.

"We found a teen mom, she doesn't want the kid. It's a little girl, she's due in June," Remus smiled.

"I'm happy for you," Lily smiled.

"When are you due?" Mary asked.

"July," Lily replied.

"How far along are you?" Mary put her hand on Lily's belly.

"Uhh," Lily counted on her fingers. "14 weeks," she replied.

"Mattheo is a weird name, don't you think?" Sirius asked.

"Hold on, it says she named the kid Mattheo Riddle," James held the newspaper out for Sirius and he gasped.

"SHE BIRTHED A HALF BLOOD!"

May 1980

"There was a prophecy," eight people sat around the table. The less who knew, the better.

Alice, Frank, Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and Dumbledore.

"What is it?" James asked.

Dumbledore's eyes looked at Alice and then Lily. "A boy born at the end of July will be the one to defeat Tom," Dumbledore replied.

"No," Alice looked down at her stomach. He turned to Lily.

"We- we don't know the sex," her bottom lip trembled. James stayed calm for a moment before lunging at Dumbledore. Sirius and Remus grabbed him while Peter shuddered.

"They're not even born yet and he wants to hurt them," he sobbed. "He's going to hurt my baby," Sirius wrapped his arms around James while Remus walked over to a sobbing Lily.

"I'm putting the four of you in safe houses. We need to make sure he doesn't try anything," Dumbledore said.

"I want Sirius to be our secret keeper," James said right away.

"I want my mom," Frank added.

"Very well. James, Lily, I'll take you. Frank, Alice, Alastor will take you," he told them. Everyone sat around the table silently. James kept his hand on Lily's stomach.

Once Mad Eye Moody showed up everyone found their way back to their houses. Everyone was officially on lockdown.

July 31 1980

Lily's screams filled the hospital. It was on complete lockdown, Auror's on every floor. Alice had been sent back to her house with a nurse to take care of her and now it was Lily's turn.

The boy came out first, followed by his sister 25 minutes later.

James held his daughter while Lily held her son. Staring at their son they both vowed they would do anything to keep them safe. "Hey, Dumbledore said you needed to talk to me?" Peter walked in.

"Sirius suggested we change the secret keeper, he was too obvious. Are you up for it?" James asked.

Peter nodded vigorously. "Well, alright then," James smiled. He handed his daughter over to him.

"We haven't landed on a name for her yet," Peter smiled at the little girl.

Sirius and Remus walked in with their baby girl Aria. James smiled.

"Pete, I hope you don't take offence," James muttered quietly and he shook his head.

"Remus, this your goddaughter and Sirius, this is your godson," The two men smiled at the babies.

"Don't worry Pete, we'll have a third just for you," James winked at the blonde boy and he laughed.

"Harry," Lily mummered.

"What was that my love?" James looked up from the babies, for the first time since they were born.

"I want to name him Harry, to honour my grandfather," she whispered and he smiled.

"Well that's good because I've thought of a name for her too," James smiled, "Aurora, like the northern lights and she's the roman goddess of dawn," he kissed Lily's hand and they smiled.

"Harry James Potter," Lily squeezed his hand and he smiled.

"Sorry, Aurora Lena Potter. For Marlene," he whispered. Lily shook her head and smiled.

"I love it," tears brimmed her eyes. They both cried silently to one another.

Christmas 1980

James was over the moon about the twins first Christmas, he went all out. None of his friends could come this year, but he had a blast with his family.

James got the most expensive gifts he could. Harry and Aurora got so many new toys. New clothes and everything they would ever want. James was spoiling them rotten and they weren't even a year old.

Halloween 1981

James was growing restless and Lily was going mad cooking every recipe they could find. Peter was over every other day dropping off new ingredients for Lily's latest adventure.

James was able to spell the backyard so they could enjoy some fresh air, but it wasn't the same.

"Come on, me and you, we can watch the stars," James whispered. "I also heard we may be able to see the Auroras tonight," he whispered and Lily bit her lip before agreeing.

"I'll go put up a spell so we can hear them when they cry," she whispered and James nodded. "I'll set up the lounge chairs," he pecked her lips and headed out.

Lily went up and put her protection spell on both kids. Aurora was peacefully asleep in her bed and Harry was asleep in his. She put up her spell and headed out.

Sitting with James they enjoyed the stars in the night sky, eventually falling asleep.

Shrieks.

That's all she heard. Her son screaming.

A disoriented James turned around and Lily ran through the house. Opening her son's room in front of him lay a body of Tom Riddle.

Everything worked in slow motion as she opened the window and screamed. James ran up the stairs and took two seconds to acknowledge the body before running out. Grabbing his daughter and running down the steps.

Calling Dumbledore.

November 1 1981

Sirius had killed Pettigrew. Well, he took his finger. The rest of his body gone. Wether he escaped or not was still in the dark.

Lily and James were hidden at another safe house, for the time being. Remus and Sirius joined them with their daughter, terrified to lose her as well.

All four of the friends were now the biggest targets in the wiarding world, every death eater wanted to kill them. Each one hunting them down.

Aria, Aurora and Harry all in their new cribs, were asleep soundly, with no idea what was happening outside of their cribs.

Fights had broken loose. People getting arrested, the wizarding world was in shambles and Lily couldn't stop crying.

January 1982

Everyone welcomed the New Year. The wizarding world was finally safe again.

James went out for the quidditch team, he chose to play for the Chudley Cannons. Lily continued her work from where she left off at the Ministry, shadowing the Minister of Magic.

Sirius continued to work as an Auror and Remus taught at the local high school once he got his teaching degree.

Mary and Joe finally tied the knot when Dean turned 15 months old.

Everyone settled into their new normal, without their old friends or their family by their side.

August 1985

Aurora and Harry were running around the house with excitment. Tomorrow was their first day of school.

Lily was a mess, the second she was alone she would cry. James was even worse at hiding his mess, he would cry infront of the kids.

Aurora even took the oppurtunity to make him happy, "daddy, mommy always does her nails when she's sad. I am doing your nails," she grabbed th pink polish off of her vanity and sat down in front of her dad and did his nails.

He had pink sparkly nail polish on for a week after. He would not take it off, no matter how hard Lily tried to get him to take it off.

Eventually she waited until he was asleep, then she took it off of him. James went back the next week and got sparkly green nail polish.

Harry on the other hand handled his father's saddness with violence. Whenever his dad would cry, he would run across the room and then run back, at full speed.

He would hurt him, James had bruises after that. More bruises than he would get whenever he was playing quidditch.

Harry on the other hand was somehow bruise resistant so he would be laughing while James is rubbing his hips.

"Do you think we started with school to early? I mean, look at me, I didn't go to school until I was 11 and I'm fine," he sighed.

Lily loooked at him and cocked her head, "I think we're good," she replied.

"It's just, they're so little," she sighed.

"James, they turned five 2 weeks ago. They're going to be fine at school," Lily replied.

"Plus, Aria and Dean will be with them," she replied, with a sigh.

Aurora and Harry ran in, both of them were crying. Lily grabbed Harry and James grabbed Aurora, both of the parents comforted the child in their arms before scolding the other one.

Making them cry again, they comforted the kids again and Lily served dinner. Which James and Lily fed to their kids, before sending them to bed.

May 1986

James and Lily's house became the hang out spot, they had the biggest house since they each had stable jobs and James's fortune.

They came over for dinner each night, which gave each of the parents time to relax while their kids played in the living room with one another.

They kept this tradition going, each night, everyone would gather at the Potters' and have dinner. It was their family dinner night.

They were the only family they had left since the war and they were going to make the most of it, no matter what happened.

Aurora, Aria, Dean, and Harry were the best of friends. They were all closer than real siblings.

"Okay, if we look at it this way, Aurora is totally going to be a carbon copy of her father. Did you see her mischevious litle grin?" Sirius laughed.

"No, I think Harry is going to be a carbon copy of James!" Mary argued.

"You're only saying that because he looks like James!" Lily argued.

"They're too old for this," Remus answered.

"Personalities change, Moony," James answered, pouring more wine for himself and everyone else.

"Okay, well they still have developed personalities. I'm praying we don't get another James and Sirius," he groaned and Sirius frowned.

"Hey, you don't love me?" Sirius pouted.

"No, Sirius," it was too late, her turned into a dog and pretended to be upset.

"Mommy, can we get a cat," Aurora ran in, followed by Aria.

Sirius turned back into a human, "betrayed, by my own goddaughter," he whined before going back into dog form.

"Aurora, no cats," James replied.

She whined, "please daddy!" She made puppy dog eyes.

"I'm sorry, sweetie," he picked her up and put her on his knee. Remus did the same with his daughter. Both girls forgot about the cat idea and played with their dads.
