Listening...or not

And he will.

Work Text:

The past few weeks had been.... difficult, as to say. Jayce had sprung a new idea, and for 3 months they had slaved for days on end.

Then, what they had thought would be their last day, something on it had melted the entire prototype from inside-out, starting a fire in the lab which destroyed almost all of their work.

Staying positive, as always, Jayce had been trying to re-write everything with Viktor figuring out the math, and it was taking a toll on both of them.

By the month mark of the destruction, they had finished the second model, this time using a controlled safe space in case it happened again.

Which-spoiler alert-it did.

He let out a large sigh as the model burst into flames for the fourth time, it was late, late enough that he knew Jayce would chew him out in the morning, and he would rather be anywhere else other than here.

He set off the fire-safety in the room and the smoke died down after a minute's water sprinkled over it.

Punching in code for the door he stepped into the short hallways before the door closed behind him and the one in front of him opened, leading him into the room where the clump-looking shack of metal laid.

The entire piece managed to fold into itself while still branching out in awkward points.

He frowned to himself as he spined it around, if he were to locate the problem, he needed a model that was at least not charcoal.

This was going to be a long night.

------------------

Jayce had felt objectively bad.

He had thought of the idea and hence led them down the path of restless nights of work.

Of course, he knew that's just what came with inventing. The harsh hours of making, building, and pitching the idea managed to both give him a reason to stay alive, and also made him want to rip his brain out Egyptian style.

Currently he was lying on his bed, soft sheets lulling him to sleep, but something sparked at the back of his mind, like the answer to their current issue was just right there, but also so far.

He rolled over with a huff, light shining through the ridiculously sized window and illuminating the room with moonlight. The exact opposite he needed right now.

He truly was lucky to have Viktor, if he hadn't been there all those years ago...well, he would be a little graver.

Viktor had taken on about 75% of the math section of their work, usually calling Jayce over if he couldn't figure something out or wanted a second opinion.

Jayce had gotten stuck with the politics side, vouching their new ideas to the council, attending meeting, and selling out their worth over dinners.

He rolled over to his back as he thought, their relationship really was like a computing machine, Jayce being the battery that provided supplies for Viktor, and Viktor himself being the processor that went through most of the math, he supposes it really is dumb to compare thing to technology but-

Oh my god

Jayce shot up out of bed, almost tripping over his sheets as he stumbled out of the room.

He whipped the door to his apartment open and ran out, in times like this he was glad he bought an on-campus apartment.

He got a few weird looks on his way to the lab but ignored them and sprinted as fast as he could.

Ripping the door to the lab open there was a startled noise from the person inside and Jayce practically grappled the man with a goofy smile going from ear to ear.

"Oh my god Viktor I figured it out! It's the processor, we've been treating it like the processors just a hexcore, putting so much energy that usually the arcane transfers-into a regular processor! its genius, right? Right?"

He rambled for a moment before actually looking at the other man, finding him staring blankly at him, but not meeting his eyes. Had he said something wrong? Did he accidently insult him?

------------------

Viktor had been working peacefully.

It had been peaceful.

He was just about to try to fix a feature (one that he now realizes would have been incredibly wrong with Jayce's theory), when the doors to the lab slammed open.

He turned around, expecting to argue with the cleaners again when he was blessed with something he can't even describe.

well, he could.

And he will.

Jayce was standing in front of his with a broad smile, shirtless, and really sporting an almost naked look.

The other man was rambling on about something, and all Viktor could really think was 'What the fuck what the fuck whatthefuckwhatthefuck'.

Because Jayce-his partner Jayce was standing in front of him looking like a fucking god.

Jayce stopped talking and Viktor was pulled out of his very non-work appropriate thoughts.

"So? Is it good? Oh god I'm wrong aren't I." he looked back up at the other man's eyes and only just realized he was obviously staring at the man tits just open on the spotlight.

Oh, yeah, processor. Arcane. Back to work.

He nodded and swallowed, "I believe you to be right, Jayce." he started, watching the other man almost jump in joy.

Only then did the other man notice his lack of clothing, so to say.

He shoved his hands into his face and crumpled into a seat, snorting as the tips of his ears turned red.

"I mean not something ill complain about, but we won't want Pitovers golden boy getting hurt in his lab due to a lack of clothing"

"I'm taking your name off the patent" he said, sliding his hands down a bit to show his eyes, and if Viktor said that didn't make his heart skip a beat, he'd be fucking lying.
