Hugo looked at the snow-covered city. The balcony was cold but quiet, it was pleasant. He could only vaguely hear the music from inside and the chatter of many people. The princess had invited all the residents of Corona to her Christmas party and if it had been up to him, he would have stayed in the lab.
The blonde sighed and took a sip of his non-alcoholic champagne. He didn't understand why Varian had insisted on going to this party in uncomfortable suits, but the suits could have been Eugene's fault.
Hugo heard a small squeak and looked down at the little mechanic mouse running up his leg. "Hey Liv," he said quietly, relieved by her presence. She sat on his hand that was holding the champagne glass, only then did he notice that the little mouse was holding something with her tail.
It was a silver ring, set with a green emerald. The ring was beautiful. The blonde's eyes widened, "Please tell me you didn't steal that," he pleaded. He sighed in relief when Olivia shook her little head.
Varian watched the interaction between his boyfriend and the mouse, Ruddiger sitting next to his leg. He took a deep breath, picked up the raccoon and stepped onto the balcony. He had been preparing for this for days, he could do it.
But when the blonde turned to him, it was as if his brain had been emptied. "I- um," he sighed, "I know it's a little early for your Christmas present." The ravenette took the ring from Hugo's hand. "But- well... I wanted to ask if... you know, if you-" he sighed again. "Sorry, I thought I could make this totally romantic," he chuckled nervously.
Varian's blood ran cold as he looked up and saw tears on Hugo's face. “w-we don’t have to get married- or should we forget about it and- and I will try again another day?" Varian panicked and tried to say anything to stop the tears.
The older one suddenly started laughing, which caught Varian of guard "you're an idiot" he laughed "of course I want to marry you" for a brief moment their lips were together until Hugo stood in front of the smaller one with a big smile and his tears wiped away. Tears of joy, Varian quickly realized.
The younger alchemist felt a nudge on his hand, he looked down at Ruddiger, who was nudging the silver ring with his small claws. Varian smiled at his buddy before taking the blonde's hand in his own. For a brief moment it was as if everything around them stopped. Varian placed the ring on Hugo's finger, careful, as if his lover was made of glass.
Hugo looked at the ring admiringly for a few seconds. "Is that why you've been so busy lately?" he asked suddenly and Varian's face immediately turned as red as a tomato. "I wanted it to be perfect," the younger boy said, barely above a whisper, "and Xavier said he would do it for free if I got him the materials, so I've spent the last few weeks trying to do just that” he giggled, showing off his adorable buck teeth.
Their lips were connected for a second time, when the kiss ended, they put their foreheads together and admired each other with all the love they could give.
"I'm sorry to ruin your moment, but it's time," said Eugene, who had come out onto the balcony. Both royal engineers sighed but entered the large throne room. Even if Eugene noticed the ring on Hugo's hand, he decided not to say anything.

Rapunzel giggled as she was led outside blindfolded. "Come on Eugene, what's the surprise?" she asked after coming to a stop.
“Okay, okay, take off the blindfold,” her husband said from behind her. Without hesitation she pulled the piece of cloth from her head, she was amazed at the sight that greeted her.
In front of her were the many residents of Corona, they were holding a fabric banner that said "Thank you Rapunzel". her surprised expression quickly turned into a wide grin.
Before she could say anything, they heard a loud boom and suddenly fireworks in every color she could imagine went off.
Everyone started to watch the colors illuminating the sky, but Rapunzel looked at her friends. Eugene held her, while staring at the sky, Cassandra was on her other side with a soft smile on her face.
Lance held Catalinas shoulder, while Kiera was on his shoulders, grinning and pointing at the many colors in the sky. Further away she could see Hugo and Varian holding each other, the blonde wasn't looking to the sky either, he was admiring a silver ring on his hand, it made Rapunzel smile a bit more.
She felt like this year was the best of them all.
