Chapter Text

The war had only been going on for a couple of months, and yet all had forgotten the reason the fight had started in the first place, Jan had only known chaos, fear and pain in the past few months and all he dreamt of was a peaceful world, a world where he could go outside and not step on blood and bones. Most people didn’t remember what it was like, and most did not care. They didn’t care about how others would die by their own hand. Jan had come to notice that soldiers enjoyed that feeling of taking someone’s life and watching the light drain in their eyes as they beg for mercy. He often heard stories in the hallways, of soldiers bragging of their accomplishments, and he couldn’t take it anymore.
He tried to find others like him but it was nearly impossible, he knew he would get thrown in jail or worse if his superiors knew what he had in mind, especially after refusing to take arms. He didn’t interact much with soldiers, he preferred staying with his colleagues, well he didn’t like being around them either but he needed to gather as much information as he could.
He and his colleagues had been trying to develop a new weapon that could basically put an end to this foolish war. They knew they weren’t close, none of them had the kind of knowledge and intellectual capacity to build something like this. Jan had a few ideas that could bring them closer to their goal, but the man had refused to take arms, he obviously was not going to contribute to building a weapon of mass destruction.

Jan had trouble sleeping, he didn’t really know why. His plan was almost coming to an end, and he knew he couldn’t mess it up, everything needed to be perfect down to the last detail. As he once again woke up at his desk, tired and alone, he looked at his watch and knew it was time to act. He picked up all his notes and info he had gathered over the past few months. He looked back at the lab exhaling slowly, a strange feeling in his gut, then he set fire to place. Not even making sure there was nothing left of what they had built, he ran back to his room to get his bag. As he reached his door, many soldiers were running towards him, he entered his room quickly and locked the door behind him. He thought he would have had more time to get away, he didn’t think that his superior officers would have still kept an eye on him, but he was wrong. As he put his bag on his shoulder, a tall man kicked the door in.

“Don’t move”, he said in a low voice, pointing his gun towards Jan. He then looked towards Jan’s wrist, and watched the red light flickering rapidly before looking back to Jan who was smirking.

And before he even realised it, Jan was laying on the ground, the soldier on top of him, holding both his wrists with one hand, his gun still pointed towards Jan, but it was too late. As the light stopped flickering, they both weren’t laying on the floor of Jan’s room anymore, but they were now laying in grass, with the wind blowing in their faces.

“What the hell”, the soldier said, loosening his grip and lowering his weapon as he looked around him.

Jan took the opportunity to escape, pushing the taller man off of himself and starting to run away from him. He hadn’t even taken five steps before the soldier started shouting at him, pointing his gun towards him again.

“Don’t fucking move, tell what the hell happened now or I swear to god I’m gonna shoot you.” he said, his hands trembling a bit.

Jan stopped in his tracks, putting his hands up and turning around slowly and smiling at him.
