“You really are useless, can’t you do anything right?”
Simon stood there and took the verbal abuse, he knew that’s what it was now. Before he would just wave it off as Nathan being stressed. Now, five years down the road he knew all Nathan’s tricks.
“You think you’re so much better than me. Don’t you?”
Simon wasn’t about to take the bait, that was how Nathan justified when verbal turned to physical. Most of the time it was useless to try and calm Nathan down when he got like this.
Why hadn’t he left? That was the only thing he didn’t know. It wasn’t because he loved Nathan anymore. That love died the day with Nathan broke three fingers on his left hand when Simon ignored a phone call from him because he was in the zone while writing a new song.
His fingers healed but sometimes they had phantom pains. He lost his love for not only Nathan that day but for his dream of becoming a professional musician.
“Are you even listening to me?”
There were two options here. The first was to answer and get a slap across the face. The second was to not say anything and get a punch to the gut.
“I don’t want to do this anymore,” he said, finally. This wouldn’t be the first time he tried to leave but he was going to do it this time. He had done something that Nathan didn’t know about yet.
“Really? You and want army?”
“How about the Swedish Royal Guard?”
Simon smiled. He didn’t know that Wille was already here. Maybe it was a cowardly thing to do but if he just left, Nathan would go right to his mother or sister to find him.
Nathan’s eyes widened and his eyes shot over to the door that Wille and his bodyguards just walked through. Nathan looked back at Simon and his eyes narrowed.
“You said you haven’t talked to him since you were sixteen.”
“That was true until earlier today when I called him.” He had to go through an old friend to get Wille’s private number.
“And he just ran you rescue?” Nathan sneered at Simon.
“He doesn’t need rescuing just a ride,” Wille said then he looked at Simon. “Do you have all your stuff packed?”
“Yeah,” Simon said, getting up.
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going?” Nathan snarled. He took a step towards Simon and one of the two bodyguards with Wille took a step towards Nathan.
“I’m leaving, something I should have done the first time you hit me and maybe before that. I deserve better.”
“And you think the King will take you back? You were a high school fuck. You are nothing,” Nathan said, his face getting red.
Simon was watching Wille. Wille never actually stood up for him when they were young. Sure, there was a time where he told Vincent off but nothing alpha male thing and Simon liked that. He didn’t need a white knight…er…prince. He just wanted something to have his back. Wille hadn’t been able to do that. But for all his faults, he was never cruel. So, Wille walking up to stand toe to toe with Nathan was a little shocking.
“I get it. You think you’re losing the best thing that ever happened to you. But I’ll make you feel a little better. You’re not losing him because he was never yours.”
“What because he’s still yours?” Nathan mocked Wille.
“No. He’s not a thing you can own.”
“You wouldn’t be so brave without the bodyguards.”
“You’d be surprised about what I’m scared of, and it’s never been getting hit. Can you say the same?”
The look in Wille’s eyes was a bit scary but Simon wasn’t scared…not of Wille at least.
“Whatever,” Nathan said, then looked back at Simon. “Get you stuff anything you leave I’ll burn.”
“Fine by me. I never want to see you again,” Simon said, then he ran to the room and grabbed the bags he had already packed. He didn’t have much because anything he loved Nathan had destroyed it already.
When he got back to the living room it was just Wille and one bodyguard.
“Where did Nathan go?” Simon asked.
“He wanted some air.”
“You didn’t have them do something to him, did you?” Simon asked, not sure what answer he wanted.
“Of course not. Let’s get out of here.”
“I’m not getting into a relationship with you. I just needed help to get out of here.”
Wille smiled at him. “Okay.”
“I mean it.”
“Okay.”
“Give me six months.”
Now Wille smiled even bigger. “Okay. That’ll probably be for the best.”
That surprised Simon. “Why?”
“You’ve been through a lot. You need to heal.”
“Where is Wille and what have you done with him.”
“I grew up.”
“I like it.”
“Thanks.”
“What did you really do to Nathan?”
“I told you, he’s getting air.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Well, we wouldn’t be us without a few surprises.”
“Let’s get out of here.” He had gotten an apartment already. He just wanted Nathan to back off and Wille wasn’t a little prince anymore. He had been king since he was eighteen. While Simon hated the monarchy, he loved Wille even now. So, he knew when he was more like himself, he would see where things went with Wille. “Just tell me your bodyguard isn’t dangling him by his feet off the balcony.”
“I promise, he’s not being dangled off of a balcony.”
Simon rolled his eyes. They wouldn’t kill Nathan or hurt him, so he was just going to drop it.
“How did you get my number anyway?” Wille asked.
He didn’t have Felice’s number and didn’t want Sara to know what he was doing so he couldn’t ask her to get it. So, he went through someone else.
“I called Henry.”
“Oh. I’m glad you did.”
“Me too.” And not entirely because of Nathan.
