Work Text:

“Dot just tell me what I did wrong!” Liko shouted from behind the metallic door. “JUST GO AWAY!” The pounds on Dot’s door quieted a bit, “please don’t shut me out.” Liko begged but Dot wasn’t swayed, “Don’t bother me anymore.”

“Ok…”

Dot wouldn’t forget how small Liko’s voice was at that moment. Memories of their fight haunting them as she typed away at her computer. She hated that they had to do that to Liko as every crack and crevice in her heart screamed for her to chase after Liko. Half of their brain was pleased that she wouldn’t be a burden to her anymore but the other half admonished them for being cruel. Amethio had told Dot to not interact with the bluenette anymore. They hated themself for it but it was for Liko’s own safety.

It hurt. It hurts them so much that she craves for any semblance of the girl but no such relief came as Liko stopped knocking all together. That should’ve been expected, karma was a bitch after all. Well she wasn’t left to drown in their thoughts with a singular loud bang resounded through the room. “DOT! You need to go to Earth 1610, Liko is overworking herself!” The androgynous voice of Starwebbers modulator cracked as both her and Silkspinner let themselves in. “Why? She can handle herself.”

Silkspinner groaned as he pulled off his mask, “That isn’t the point! She’s going to hurt herself!” the now unmasked Roy roared at them. This was the most pissed off Dot had seen him and Penny holding her own mask glaring down at them with far more frustration than anything. “I thought you cared about Liko,” Penny stated pointedly. Dot huffed indignant and mad that she would even insinuate that she didn’t, “I do CARE!”

“Then what are you waiting for,” Starwebber slipped her mask back on, not taking a no for an answer.

“I…Fine.” Dot grumbled, putting on her own spider suit.

Andro-Spider had split from the other two pretty early on after they gave them a quick brief about how Liko wouldn’t listen to them. Swinging through the high rise buildings of New York with a sigh dripping from her lips. Dot couldn’t help but think that this was a pain just wanting to get this over with quickly so she wouldn’t have to deal with the horrible ache in her chest for much longer.

While swinging they saw the familiar blue and green costume of Terra-Weaver leaning against the wall of an alleyway. Andro-spider felt their eyes widen at her state, much of the costume still had dirt on it caked with sweat. Liko was panting heavily, her eyes had dark eyebags underneath. Dot understood why the others were so concerned about her wellbeing she looked like she had been at this for days. “Liko?” they called out cautiously, lowering herself down gently. “Dot what are you doing here?” Likos voice was strained with emotion, but a slight hopeful tinge remained. “I… Uh Penny and Roy are worried about you,” Dot stated, taking a couple steps closer, unable to admit that she’s worried herself.

“Oh.”

“Ok. You can leave now,” Liko huffed, her face falling at the Dot’s callousness. She turned on her heel ready to swing away but Andro-spider had stopped her. “You need to rest,” They snapped, frustrated at her disregard. “You didn’t want me to bother you anymore so why do you care!” Terra-weaver bit back much harsher than the programmer had been. Dot didn’t even get a chance to respond before Liko reared her head and practically slammed them against the wall. Andro-spider had attempted to slip from her hold to no avail making her even more angry. “Go ahead Dot! Run from every heart you take!” Liko spat more in disappointment and heartbreak rather than anger, piercing Dot right through the heart far deeper than any other words could. Dots chest aches realizing what she meant. The bluenette ripped off their mask, before crashing her lips on to theirs in hasty frustration. The kiss didn’t last long as Liko pulled away carelessly as her elongated fangs scraped the edge of Dot's lip. “You don’t get to run back while pretending you don’t care.” Liko snarled, showing off her fangs, but her eyes betrayed her anger. Those blue irises swirling with hopeless affection and sorrow, “Goodbye Andro-spider.”

With that Terra-weaver disappeared again leaving Dot alone to suffer the consequences of her actions. Their heart and mind are out of sync wallowing in pain. Andro couldn’t leave now they hurt Liko far more than she ever wanted to. So she began to search again not to find a trace of her till damn near midnight.

This time Terra-weavers exhaustion caught up with her as her beaten and bloodied body was kicked off the building. When Dot saw her falling everything exploded into static springing into action desperate to catch her in time. As they crashed into Liko clutching her close to her body barely shooting a web in time to slow their descent. Dot positions to take the brunt of the landing as they couldn't help but think that they were both fallen angels who flew too close to the sun about to crash and burn. Pain bloomed in her spine after slamming into the concrete. Andro-spider paid no heed to it, more worried about getting Liko into base to treat her injuries.

“Dot? Why did you come back?” Likos voice was weak. “Because a dumbass decided to be reckless and tried to fight while exhausted!” She couldn’t help but bark at the girl in her arms as they fiddled with the watch to transport them to base.

Getting Liko to the infirmary wasn’t an issue, what was though was the agonizing time Dot had to wait to get any news she was ok. Thankfully her injuries weren’t too bad, a few bruised and fractured ribs and a wrist sprain. Dot sat next to her as she woke up, her eyes blinking up in surprise at seeing them. “I’m sorry,” the taller one apologized. “Don’t be it’s my fault anyhow.”

Dot didn’t let Liko protest, shushing her and easing her into a sitting position. Gently resting their head on her shoulder, “I’m glad you're ok. Don’t scare me like that again.” Dot admitted being completely honest with her feelings this time. “I’m sorry I pushed you away and hurt you,” Their voice cracked, holding back tears. Liko being unfairly kind as per usual tilted her head up wiping her tears, “It’s ok.” the bluenette soothed. “It’s not, I shouldn’t have pushed you away in the first place,” The programmer wailed, feeling completely undeserving of any kindness. “Then let me in this time,” Liko requested, pressing her forehead to theirs.

The freckled demi-girl nodded who couldn’t help but steal a small kiss in response.
