Daddy issues

Summary:

Kurt’s father goes off on him after finding out he’s bisexual so Kurt finds comfort in Krist.

Work Text:

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Kurt’s father demanded.

As soon as Kurt Cobain heard that, his eye’s widened, and he gently placed his guitar in his case before turning over to his father. He was just practicing guitar when his father rushed right into his room.

“What are you talking about?” Kurt asked. Ever since his father divorced from his mother, he has been acting like a huge ass.

“Don’t act like you don’t realize you are missing something.” Before Kurt could ask what his father was talking about, his father pulled out a gay Playboy magazine and opened it, revealing several men engaging in gay sex.

Kurt’s face flashed bright red, and he couldn’t help but feel shame and embarrassment overcome him. He looked away, staring down at his bed. He was too shameful to look his father right in the eyes.

“Look at me!” He ordered. “Tell me, why do you have this? Is there any excuse that you could possibly muster up besides just admitting you're a fag?”

“What’s even so wrong with being gay?” Kurt demanded, looking his father right in the eyes.

“What isn’t wrong with it?” He retorted. “You are a man. Getting fucked in the ass by another man is disgusting. I've seen your other magazines too. I took them all. You also get off to cross-dressing porn. Do I have a son? Or do I have some prissy sissy that wants to be a girl?”

“I don’t! But even if I do that, it isn’t a crime.” Kurt huffed, tears dripping down his face. He felt so ashamed of himself and so stupid at the same time. Why couldn’t he just have hid his magazines better. “For the record I like both men and women.”

“I don’t care. Liking men still means you're a faggot, and I don’t want no gay son of mine living in my house!”

“Fine. Then I’ll leave!”

Getting up, Kurt pushed his father aside before storming right out of his house. His father was cursing and screaming at him, but Kurt simply ignored it and made himself keep going. He would end up finding some place else to stay, or he would just die.

-------------------

When he left his house, Kurt didn't know exactly where he was going. He just knew that he had to get out of this place before he killed his father or his father killed him.

He just walked down the street, mindlessly heading over to the bridge. He didn't want to go home. He figured that he could sleep here tonight and go back in the morning.

He wouldn't want to go back in the morning, but Kurt knows that he can't stay under the bridge forever. He will get killed or raped or both.

Just as Kurt sat down under the bridge, his phone started to ring. His first thought was that it was his father, so he ignored it. But his phone only kept ringing, so he sighed and looked at his phone. Krist was calling him.

Kurt hesitated. Krist is his best friend and, admittedly, the man that he loves the most and has a crush on.  But Krist doesn't know that part.

Shaking away his thoughts, Kurt answered the call.

"H-Hello?"

Kurt hated how he sounded. He sounded like a pathetic pussy but he just got done crying his eyes out and he can't control the tone of his voice.

"What's wrong?"

Kurt froze as soon as Krist asked him that. He hasn’t told Krist anything yet, at the same time, it seems that Krist knew something was wrong. It’s almost as if the two boys have a sense of each other.

“W-What do you mean?”

“Don’t act like something isn’t wrong. I can tell that something is wrong. Please just tell me what it is.”

Kurt didn’t know why, but he got overwhelmed with emotions, and he decided to spill everything. Krist already knew about his magazines and the fact Krist is bisexual and a cross-dresser. He’s always been supportive of him. The two haven’t had sex, but they had a few close moments. In all honesty, Kurt had a crush on Krist. He just can’t get the courage to tell him.

“M-My dad found my magazines, and he found out that I’m bisexual and a cross-dresser…” Kurt tried not to cry. “We got into a big fight, and I left and have nowhere to go now. I guess I’m homeless now because my dad doesn’t want me in his house.”

“Where are you?” Was all that Krist asked when Kurt was finished.

“I’m under the bridge.”

“I’ll be there soon.”

Krist then hung up.

Once he was off the phone, Kurt felt butterflies fluttering in his stomach. He knew that he was in a shitty situation right now, but at the same time, he at least had Krist, and that’s all he needed right now.

It didn’t take Krist long to arrive under the bridge. Kurt figured that he ran the whole way because he was out of breathe and sweat was dripping all over him. He collapsed next to Kurt.

“Are you okay?” Kurt asked.

“Don’t worry about me.” Krist said once he caught his breath. “I’m here for you now. I’ll help you.”

Kurt shifted uncomfortably. “I’m not sure how you can help me. I can’t go back to my dad’s… He hates me. I’ll just stay here, I guess.”

“I’m not going to let you live under a bridge. That’s so dangerous. I would feel horrible if something happened to you because of that. You can maybe live with me. I’m sure I could convince my parents to let you stay with us.”

“But why?” Kurt asked. “Why do you care so much about me to the point that you would want me to live with you?”

“Because I love you.” Krist said bluntly. “I love you and care about you so much. I’m attached to you, and all I want is for you to be happy. You're my best friend, Kurt, and you're so talented and funny. I can't live without you.”

When Krist told Kurt that he loved him, so many things pulsed throughout Kurt’s mind. He wondered if Krist loved him romantically, but he couldn’t dwell on that. He had better things to focus on.

“T-Thank you…” Kurt choked out, tears rapidly falling down his face. “I love you too.”

He then lunged forward and wrapped his arms tightly around Krist, rubbing his hands up and down his back as he rested his head under his chest and began to cry.

“I-I’m sorry I’m crying on you and hugging you. I can stop if you want.”

“Don’t stop, baby.” Krist whispered gently into his ears. “Just hold me tightly until you're calm.”

Krist’s words just made Kurt grab onto him tighter.

As Krist held and cradled Kurt in his arms, he couldn't help but think about slitting his father's throat. No matter what possibly could happen due to this, Krist was going to make sure that his best friend (and crush) was safe.
