Chapter Text
The young-looking vampire, whose skin was almost as pale as the snow, wore old-fashioned clothing from the late 19th century.
He hadn't caught any prey today. People had simply become far too cautious and no longer left their houses late at night. They also gathered together during the day because they felt more protected that way, which made it more difficult to catch prey inconspicuously and quietly.
He wanted to get back to his lord as quickly as possible, so he took a shortcut through a dark forest. Only the dim light of the full moon, which penetrated the treetops and cast such eerie shadows, illuminated his way.
This route was dangerous at that time because on such nights the vampires' rivals, the werewolves, reached their maximum strength. They used this extreme increase in strength not to hunt human, but mainly to hunt and kill vampires.
To Toshi's dismay, he was spotted by a high-ranking werewolf who still resembled a human, accompanied by a few lesser werewolves who had not managed to retain their human form during their transformation.
Their leader had chocolate-brown hair and fur, except for his face, which resembled a human, except for glowing red eyes and fangs, as well as two pointed fur-covered ears.
Shinji taunted his potential victim with contempt in its purest form. “Look what a great catch we made, guys. If that isn't the vampire lord's loyal subordinate. What are you doing hanging around here on such a beautiful night, all alone? Has your lord finally realized how useless and weak you are and thrown you out to meet your end here? If not, the only alternative is that you are the biggest moron I have ever met in my life. Or could it be that you long for death as a release from your miserable existence? If so, then we will gladly grant your wish, but I don't need to get my claws dirty on you, my followers are enough for that, am I not right?”
A collective growl confirmed his statement, they were all practically lusting after sinking their fangs into the vampire's flesh.
“You see, they agree.”
Toshi waited for his enemy's seemingly endless monologue before reacting. “When you've finished your useless talk, Shinji, perhaps we can begin our duel; otherwise I'll fall asleep standing up.”
“As you wish, then we'll begin with the introduction, after all I would rather not refuse the last wish of someone sentenced to death. Boys — it's your turn, have fun.”
He snapped his left hand and the entire pack of five white wolves bared their teeth before attacking their victim.
“But don't kill him too quickly, I don't want the conversation to end so soon.”
Contrary to expectations, Toshi fought back against this superior force with bravura, which the leader deeply disliked and, contrary to his words, he intervened and caught Toshi unprepared with a single fatal blow.
The werewolf thrust his right hand into Toshi's upper left chest. "Excuse me, but I can't stand to see you making a fool of my charges any longer.
After the hand was withdrawn, the vampire fell onto his back, surrounded by his attackers. But satisfied with their work, they left the badly wounded man behind to die.
“Come on, let's get out of here, maybe we'll find another vampire idiot who can give us more fun than this weakling.”
The vampire breathed heavily and looked through the treetops at the moon, probably the last thing he would see before his body crumbled to dust.
A few seconds later, after he thought he was alone, Toshi heard footsteps coming towards him and a branch lying on the ground breaking when someone stepped on it.
He looked a little to the right, where he had heard the noises, but what he saw was not the werewolf from before with his companions, who wanted to finish his work after all, but a human, or to be more precise, a hunter whose prey was not wild animals, but superhuman beings like himself.
