Summary:

Love.

It was a complex word to Lola. She knew what the word 'love' meant, that people experience it. Though she's unsure on what it really feels like. She once believed that she knew what it felt like but she had been proved wrong. She wouldn't let anybody love her again or fall victim to loving someone.

Lola grew up in SHEILD after being taken in after her parent's sudden disappearance when she was only three years old. She had electrical powers, there had been no explanation on how she had gained them but SHEILD took advantage of this. Lola started training as an agent at only four years old, SHEILD'S youngest.

Now at fourteen she had become advanced and experienced in her abilities, the perfect spy. She didn't get close to anybody, she kept to herself, she didn't need love.

Nick Fury sends her on a mission at the avengers tower in New York with no other than the well known Natasha Romanoff. What Lola doesn't know is that this mission would change everything.

She would change.

Chapter 1: Lola’s Beginning

Chapter Text

Natasha Romanoff.

Lola had heard that name countless of times. Agents from SHEILD mentioned her name from time to time during immensely long missions, usually about how she had handled something or finished off their jobs for them. The agents all practically praised her which Lola found uncanny as she was just an agent like the rest of them.

Clint Barton, who the red headed girl had quite a handful of missions with in the past rarely mentioned her but when the skilled archer did it was usually to express how similar the two seemed to be physical appearance wise. This was something that Lola could actually agree with fully, they did look similar. From the photos she had reviewed from the SHEILD files that she was definitely not supposed to read she could pinpoint the same shade of auburn hair that they shared, their eye shapes particularly matched exactly to one another's and over all people could probably mistake them for being related.

The young girl had attempted to pry more out of Clint, get any notion on what agent Romanoff may be like but he never seemed to budge. He didn't seem quite keen with talking or striking a conversation with her but that didn't surprise her at all, nobody seemed to find her all that amusing.

Coming back to the restricted files that Lola had definitely read without any permission, it seemed as if agent Romanoff had quite the unpleasant past. There was something on her growing up in a place called 'The Red Room'. Lola didn't know much about the mysterious place other than the fact that it was some sort of place that trained assassins, at least that's what Director Fury had informed her on.

Speaking of the one and only Nick Fury, he had been the one to let her become aware of the mission she would starting in a couple of hours with agent Romanoff herself. It came as a bit of a shock to the fourteen year old girl at first. Natasha Romanoff to her was like a ghost that resurfaced every once in a while, she constantly made her reappearance in the words and stories of others but never showing herself completely like she was some sort of secret that couldn't be solved. Though this time her secret could be solved because Lola would finally be able to distinguish her from the numerous stories she's heard, she would finally be able to learn who the real Natasha Romanoff was.

"You are so obsessed with her" Fury had claimed "That we may as well send you on a mission with her".

Lola didn't agree with director Fury's statement. She was not 'obsessed' with agent Romanoff she was just plagued with a certain curiosity. Every time the older agent was mentioned it was as if she got this gut feeling that she couldn't shake. It was if her gut was trying to let her in on something important but she just couldn't fathom what exactly it meant and maybe she never will.

"What sort of mission?" The young girl questioned unsurely.

Fury had straightened up in his chair that he currently sat in at his office's desk and leaned in more closely to Lola who was listening in intently, like she always did when ever the director had something to explain.

"We've got an anonymous tip off by somebody that there is an apparent organisation up to no good" he half whispered, his eyes traveled across the room as if he was expecting for someone to be there listening in on them.

"So what exactly do you want me to do?" Lola asked though she had a good guess on exactly what the man wanted her to do. "Find them?"

Fury had gave her a deadpanned expression in return for even asking. "Locate them with Romanoff and then contact SHEILD immediately, don't be shy about using your abilities either" he instructed.

Right, her powers. Nobody really knows how but she was presumably born with electrical powers. The best possible way of describing them would be that they formed sort of like lightning strikes of a vibrant blue colour. From what the auburn haired girl had come to understand with past experiences was that when hit with them, they hurt like hell.

Lola nodded firmly at the director's instructions, she kept her posture straight and precise. She wanted to demonstrate how well she respected the man as if it weren't for him she probably would've been living a not so bliss life compared to life she's got right now.

When the teenager was just three years old her parents Maria Davis and Sean Davis had esoterically vanished from their home, for some unknown reason leaving their daughter behind. When SHEILD had become aware of two of their scientists disappearing they went to investigate the scene. They had discovered the younger version of Lola and soon came to realise of her powerful abilities. Ever since then she had become an agent for SHEILD and went on missions constantly for them.

Nobody really knew of Lola's existence other than SHEILD. She had no birth certificate, there was no known photos of her as a baby, as far as Lola herself was aware the outside world including all governments did not know she even existed. She was SHEILD's little secret, their property.

Fury had took out some files and shuffled them neatly together against the desk "Your mission starts tomorrow, you will be staying in the avengers tower located in New York Midtown Manhattan."

Lola was a bit taken aback by the location but didn't let it show, keeping her expression neutral. She felt kind of foolish for not realising it sooner. If she was partaking in a mission with agent Romanoff where else would she be staying?

She's heard so many stories of the avengers, she wondered if now that she was staying at the avengers tower would she meet any of them, well she was already meeting one of them but would the rest bother to even greet her? From her perspective most likely not as no body ever wanted to get close to her. Though in her opinion that was good, that meant she had nothing holding her back from doing what she needed done.

Fury pushed the now organised files over to the girl who gave them a small glance before picking them up and examining them.

"I advise you give them a read, get ahead of the game now" the man spoke in more of a demanding tone rather than a suggestive one.

Lola gave him another firm nod to show she understood and got up from the chair she had been sitting on that was across from him. She pushed it into the table and turned to head out of the office, the files tucked in closely to her chest in a protective manner.

"Lola" Fury suddenly spoke.

The teen froze in her tracks but didn't turn to face him.

"Don't let Romanoff distract you" he warned sternly.

She stood there still frozen, soaking in what the man had said even if she didn't understand why he would even suggest it. She heard the noise of him moving around things at his desk, no longer communicating with her. She stood there for a few mere seconds before leaving.

She walked out of the room silently, clutching the files to her chest more tightly than necessary. Fury's words playing over and over again in her mind.
