Chapter Text
Your first day. A few months ago if someone had told you that you’d be having your first day at a new school as an 18 year old, you’d have said they were out of their damn mind. Oh and it's a school that specializes in training sorcerers, something you didn’t know much about until two months ago. But here you are, standing on the grounds of your new glorified boarding school with your mom and dad about to move in.
You look at your parents, seeing the excitement in their eyes, realizing that they must have been reminiscing about their time here. Your nervous demeanor juxtaposes against their delight. You couldn’t help but feel you weren’t going to belong, that you were going to be an outcast. After all, coming into a school during 4th year was basically social suicide at a traditional high school.
There is a small feeling though that you do belong here, that you are smart enough, and that you’d figure it out. The new challenge does excite you even though the idea of meeting all new people fills you with dread. Teenagers could be so cruel after all.
“Well, shall we?” Your dad says cheerfully.
“Might as well,” you respond shakily, clutching your purse in your arm and suitcase by your side.
You and Mom follow Dad as he locks the car and begins to walk down the stone path, seeming to know exactly where to go. He and mom did attend this school after all so it made sense. They were so excited that you were able to attend Jujutsu High, even though it was so late in your schooling.
It had appeared that you hadn’t been born with the ability to use cursed energy. While your parents had been a little sad, that didn’t stop them from loving you and happily giving you a fulfilling life. You had learned about jujutsu sorcery and curses as you grew up on the off chance you were a late bloomer. It was a good thing you did because at the end of June you accidentally manifested your cursed technique. You had kind of forgotten about the whole jujutsu thing until you saw what you now know was a curse walking home from the convenience store one day. You had freaked out and that rush of emotions and fear must have activated your cursed energy, tearing up the sidewalk you were standing on.
Your dad works for the jujutsu society as an engineering sorcerer and you had developed a similar technique much to his delight. The next 2 months had been spent getting your applications into the school and your father teaching you about your shared technique whenever he could.
The gist of your technique as explained by Dad was that your technique allowed you to perform mathematical and chemical calculations almost instantaneously to use cursed energy to detect atomic levels of matter and elements, then chemically bond them together in void spaces. As an engineering sorcerer, he was able to send cursed energy through voids in materials and even within the earth to assess the stability of structures like bridges, roads, and buildings. He could then convert the energy into a compound that could bond to surfaces and fill in voids with a paste like structure that hardened into concrete depending on how much strength was needed to stabilize the object. You had only learned a little bit about it before you had to go off to school, but Dad had insisted that your teachers and classmates would help you develop it even more as he had only a very limited application of it.
You felt confident when it came to traditional school subjects. You had been top of your class in math and science, and not too far behind in subjects like history and grammar. You also had been a star athlete as a soccer player, so your physical fitness was pretty good for your age. Of course that didn’t mean anything when you are joining kids who have been doing this possibly their whole lives.
You look around at the surroundings as you wind your way through the campus. Mature evergreen trees and lush grass lawns adorn the space and meticulously maintained gardens frame the stone pathways. You see wooden single story buildings scattered about and a few shrine-like ones up on the hillsides above. You wonder which building houses the dorms.
“We are here!” Dad exclaims breaking you from your trance. You look up to see a two story building with “visitor center” written on the building. All three of you enter through the large wooden door into the lobby of the building. An older receptionist with glasses warmly smiles at you.
“You must be the new student, we’ve been expecting you. Welcome to Jujutsu High,” she announces. You feel a little better seeing this friendly introduction. Dimples form at the corners of her mouth and her eyes squint as she smiles. She looks to Dad and makes beams with a realization “I didn’t realize this was your daughter! How exciting for you and your family.”
“She sure is, we are thrilled that she will get to experience our old stomping grounds,” he responds, grabbing Moms hand. Your parents have always been so supportive of you, and this is no exception. As your parents and the receptionist catch up, you pull out your phone to check your messages.
Shoko: bitch when do you get here?
You: I just got to reception, parents are yapping it up
Shoko is the one person you know here. Her family has been friends with yours for as long as you can remember. Even though she started at the school as a 1st year, you had kept in touch and hung out during summer breaks, gossiping about typical teenager topics like boys, clothes and…well mainly boys. She had shared a little about the classmates at school over the summer once you found out you had been accepted, but ultimately she wanted you to decide for yourself what you thought of them.
She must have wasted no time because the door burst open and you both squealed when you saw each other.
“There you are!!” She grabbed you in a headlock that was almost a hug. You instantly felt a stroke of confidence being in her presence. Just knowing one person in your class made this whole experience so much easier. She bows to your parents after untangling herself from you. “Nice to see you both too!” She beams and your parents who are equally as happy to see her.
“So good to see you Shoko,” mom responds, “I’m glad she will have a friend here.”
You all finish checking in and head back to the car to gather your bags. You hug your parents goodbye, the realization of being away from them for the next year not totally setting in yet. Shoko leads the way towards your dorm, babbling excitedly while you were only half listening.
“You’ll get your own room which is amazing, we all have our own rooms with our own bathrooms. Dorms are coed and all buildings have a common room we can hang out at. Dorms are broken up by year, so all 4th years are on the same floor/building. We are allowed to leave campus on weekends and days off….” She gabs on as you both walk towards a wooden building with a green roof. She reaches to open the large jade colored door. “After you,” she fake curtsies. You walk through the threshold, getting your first look at your new home.
You walk through the doors, unsure of what to expect. On your right you see what seems to be a lounge area with a TV, couches, and a kitchen area. The restrooms are on the other side of the hall. You both turn around a corner and you notice the wood flooring continues as you see doors lining the hallway on each side.
“How many students are in our class?” You ask
“Twenty-six. Thirteen in combat and thirteen in support.” Shoko responds. “We all take our core classes together like math, science, history, and grammar. Then we split into our specialized classes for combat and support. Us support students have combat twice a week with an assigned combat student for the year. It gives them a chance to help with teaching and it’s for us to learn a little in case we need it one day. We started classes at the beginning of the week, but you haven’t missed much so you should be fine tomorrow.”
You nod as you try to absorb everything she says. Thank god she is here, you wouldn’t even know where to begin. It’s Thursday evening now so you just have to make it through one day before the weekend. Shoko stops walking and pulls out a key.
“This is you! Why don’t you try opening it?” Shoko states as she hands you the key. You push it in and unlock the door easily. Eager to see inside, you push the door open to reveal the room. It’s quite spacious. The wooden floor extends into the room where a red and gold rug lays on the floor. You note a desk, a couch, a TV stand, and a large queen size bed. A window sits straight across from the door to the left of the bed. You scope out the bathroom and your eyes widen. It’s bigger than your bathroom back home! The tile on the shower wall matches the backsplash of the sink.
You can’t wait to take a hot shower after this long day. Your room is like a little oasis, so specious and much larger than back home.
“Are guys allowed in our rooms and vice versa?” You ask innocently.
“Yeah, why? You have your eye on someone already?” She grins, arching an eyebrow at you.
“N-n-no!!” You retort back quickly. “I just wanted to make sure of the rules.”
“I’m just joking with you sheesh,” she rolls her eyes back at you. “For real though, no one is coming in here to be all up in your shit. The only time teachers come in is if you need to go on an unplanned mission or something. You could have 4 guys spend the night if you wanted.”
“Do people do that here?” You ask a little shocked.
“Girl. It’s a glorified boarding school with a bunch of teenagers living in the same building. Of course that’s going on,” she laughs “I mean not everyone, but yeah some are more…active than others.”
You blush. The most you have done is kissed and a little bit of feeling up with your longtime boyfriend. You broke up with him before coming here though, and it still had you a little sad. Shoko notices you are lost in thought.
“Thinking about Yusuke?” She probes. She knew you had been with him for 2 years and how you had suddenly called it quits with him over the summer.
“Yeah, it's just hard to go from a long term relationship to nothing. It was for the best though, he can’t be caught up in this life,” You sigh.
“Well maybe we can go out this weekend and help get your mind off of him a little,” Shoko winks at you. You giggle awkwardly in response, sure that you won’t be partaking in such activities anytime soon.
“I’m gonna go outside for a smoke, I’ll leave you to set up your room. I’ll come grab you for dinner in an hour, Ok?”
“Yeah sounds good, thanks for showing me around so far.”
She nods and closes the door behind her. You collapse onto the bed and stare up at the ceiling, pulling out your phone, secretly hoping Yusuke has texted you. Your heart skips a beat seeing a message from him.
Hope you arrived safely, I love you.
Why does he have to be saying shit like that? It just makes it harder on you both. You resign yourself to cutting off contact, it's just better that way. You leave it on read to put your things away. There wasn’t much you brought, mainly clothes, toiletries, school supplies, and a set of sheets and blankets for your bed. Once you are satisfied with the placement of everything, you lay back down to watch some videos on your phone. The hour must have flown by because you hear a knock on your door that jolts you from your phone induced stupor. You open it and find Shoko with two other guys. You notice how tall and built they are. Are all the guys here jacked like this?
Dinner time!” She grins as she yanks you out the door. “Also this is Gojo and Geto,” she points to each of them.
You are taken aback at how handsome they both are. Gojo with his white hair and ice blue eyes nearly takes your breath away, the guy is beautiful. And then there’s Geto with such silky black hair and flawless skin. They could both be models honestly.
“Wow look at you, Shoko you didn’t tell us you had such a looker of a friend,” Gojo sizes you up and down in a flirty tone.
“Huhhhh?” you blush, shocked at his opening statement.
“Excuse him, he’s socially inept at times,” Geto chuckles as he steps between you and Gojo. “It’s nice to meet you, I’ve heard so much about you….good things,” he adds as he notices your lips tighten up at his statement. “How are you liking it so far?”
“So far so good,” you respond back. You tell him about how nice the room and bathrooms are compared to yours back home and he chuckles in amusement. Meanwhile Shoko is dragging Gojo by the collar in front of you two as you figure Gojo said something else wild for sure.
The four of you cross the courtyard outside the dorm building and enter a cafeteria. Your eyes widen at all the choices. So many fruits and vegetables, rice, meats and fish, soups, breads, it was heaven. You decide on some rice, stir fried vegetables, and black cod. You follow the trio to a table and all sit down together.
“Wow this is so good,” you exclaim as you wolf down your food, the others laughing in amusement.
“Good thing you can go get seconds and thirds,” Geto smiles.
“So what do you like to do for fun?” Gojo asks as he inhales what must be his third soda since sitting down. No wonder he seems like he’s bouncing off the walls.
“Well, I played a lot of soccer back in my hometown. I did both travel and school teams. I also enjoy being outside doing things like hiking and exploring. Other than that, I have two younger siblings so I spend a lot of time playing with them,” you respond.
“Wow, so pretty athletic? That will hopefully help you out with getting up to speed here. How long have you been a sorcerer?” Gojo continues, cocking his head in curiosity.
“Ha, well I started being able to see and feel cursed energy in June, so not too long ago,” you laugh nervously.
“Oh my gosh, you’re a baby!” He says in a childish voice that has all four of you cracking up. You are glad everyone seems to be really outgoing, something tells you they don’t get many new students at a school like this.
“Is everyone here as nice as you all?”
“Uhhh, not everyone, there are definitely some prickly characters in this bunch,” Shoko rolls her eyes, “it should be easy to figure out who they are though, they don’t exactly hide the fact that they are unpleasant.”
You gulp down your drink and slowly open your mouth to respond when the cafeteria door bangs open, causing the four of you to look up. You first see a tall guy with black hair hanging into his eyes, a cut on his lip. He’s wearing a tight black shirt and baggy white pants. He is absolutely jacked as well. Then you see a pink haired guy seemingly bickering with a shorter white haired person. The taller one has what seems like tattoos on his face, spiked pink hair, and a menacing look as he glares down at the shorter student. He has on black sweatpants and a white long sleeve t-shirt, with what you can’t tell are a necklace or more markings on his neck.
“Speak of the devil,” Shoko mumbles under her breath.
